KIDS and accidents and now my nerves are SHREDDED!!!

That reminds me of a guy I used to manage at work. I got a phonecall at 8.30 saying he wouldn't be able to come to work as he had been awake all night keeping an eye on his son who had fallen over and banged his head quite badly. He wasn't knocked out but as he had a history of fits they were concerned that something might happen when he was asleep. Reasonable, you would think except that the son was 26, had fallen over when p****d and had had ONE febral convulsion when he was 2.

ETA. 24 years of riding and my worst injury (fractured cheek bone) was caused by slipping on a wet bathroom floor on holiday. *Runs off to touch every bit of wood she can find*

Your worst nightmare is being on playground duty and having your attention taken up by bickering girls, telling tales about one another whilst heads are connecting with tarmac just out of your direct line of vision. We are terrified of being sued for negligence and risks are being kept to such a minimum now that soon, all that kids will be allowed to do is stand carefully outdoors on playmats for five minutes in perfect weather, a body's distance apart.

I really hope it was a genuine accident and that no further problems crop up. I can't decide whether i'm relieved it wasn't the pony or horrified it was at school!

I opened this with my heart in my mouth thinking something had happened to her with Dolly! Glad she's feeling better after her traumas of the day.

We gave Dolly a carrot and pat last week as we were on a flying visit to see our black mare. It was school hours, so was sorry not to meet you, as we didn't manage a visit at half-term. She definitely looked slimmer, and very well in herself :)

Hello!

Realised after posting that I should have put "non horsey" in the title! Sorry for the scare!!!

Awww thanks for the pat and carrot on Dolly's behalf (although when I first read, I did think you meant "pat and carrol" and had spelt it wrong - think I must be concussed too :D)!!!

Glad you think she's looking better. Soooooo much happier - a completely different pony to 3 months ago. No regrets, and looking forward to happy times ahead!!!!

Thanks for your well wishes! x x x

Oh bless you !

I'm so glad your cherub is on the mend.
Re. school secretaries, I often wonder if part of their initial interview for the post is held in front of the local AmDram committee !
The times I have been summond to school, expecting to be given a bin bag of body parts, only to be greated by a child revelling in the glory of being allowed to go home early !

I wish you a peacful night x

Laughed my bum off at the AmDram's bit!!!

Thanks!!! :D

To everyone,

Thanks sooooo much for your well wishes. I'm going to show daughter this thread tonight to cheer her up.

Well the daughter update (makes a change for Dolly not to be included!) is this.

She didn't have a bad night, and no scary symptons like headaches, passing out or vomiting, which we were warned about.

She woke up looking, and feeling, like she'd been ran over by a bus. Head swelling has gone down a lot, but had to change the steri stitches again as it'd bled through. Head wounds bleed A LOT!!!! Can't bend knee. Hip and wrist very painful. New pain - very very sore neck. I'm suspecting a touch of whiplash from where her head bounced off the ground.

She's actually quite bright and perky today considering! I've treated her to a pudsy bear, for Children in Need, as a get well soon!

Riding tomorrow isn't looking likely. I've told her if she can't ride, we'll get Dolly out (everyone have fingers crossed for decent weather - not raining will do!) and walk her around the yard, then tie her up outside and give her a good grooming and some treats. That should make her happy (both of them!).

Now I've calmed down, I don't really blame anyone. The little boy that she tripped over, was only playing (with her I think) and did stop to see how she was. Bet he feels awful. The secretary, whilst she could have been a little less dramatic, was very very upset and I think just gushed out the panic she felt herself. Turns out a couple of teachers/lunchtime assistants had a bit of a cry about it afterwards. She did look very very bad (blood coming out of head, nose, mouth etc...) so I can imagine it was upsetting for them too.

I hate this day and age of liability. I hate the way kids have to be wrapped in cotton wool for fear of someone being sued. I truly believe in taking reasonable precautions, buying the best safety equipment you can buy and scraping them up off the floor when it goes wrong.

And then drinking heavily to calm my nerves!!!

Thanks again everyone!!!! :)
