Hi

Just wondered if anyone has had problems with kieffer saddles, specifically something to do with a plastic tree?

I dont have one and dont want one so completely unbiased about this topic, just a friend in wondering if the plastic tree could shrink and expand and cause her horse problems? Any information would be welcome.

Many thanks

Emma

"wondering if the plastic tree could shrink and expand"

What makes you think it could expand and shrink?

I'm sure with their years of making saddles they wouldn't get fundamentals like this wrong!

Yup I make you completely right, I just want to know if anyone has heard or experienced it.

Like I said its not really my query, just asking on behalf of someone.

Many thanks

I'm in the process of buying my second one and I've never had a problem. Also a big fan of the Lovatt & Rickets Event saddle.

I'm sure if she emails Kieffer they'll be able to help her with any queries.

Surely a wooden tree would be more likely to shrink & expand? Wood absorbs damp etc & this causes it to swell & distort.

I think it highly unlikely a plastic tree would change shape in that way TBH.

Whats TBH?

I completely agree with you I doubt this can happen also.

However she thinks that there is a possibility that the saddle contracted a little, in a week. Specifically after it came back from being adjusted, to be made wider.

She says that she has since heard this can happen with these trees.

I personally dont like the kieffers for myself so am really not fussed about peoples opinions.

Once again this information is welcome.

tbh = to be honest.
right, that makes more sense. if a tree is widened, it is possible for it to spring back to its original setting, i believe. she needs to get it checked and measured again by the saddler, obviously.

tbh ah yes doh!

Yes she is going to do that, but this horse is generally difficult 'apparently' lots of ifs buts and maybes. Im not getting involved in all that, this was however of a little interest to me.

thanks

I have two kieffer saddles (both Aachen models (they were on sale and I have a growing youngster who is boud to change shape a lot)) and they both seem to fit a huge range of horses that are on the medium fitting (possibly leaning towards the narrow) initially (neither of mine have been adjusted) (QHs and TBs mainly and finer WBs). I have found that they do fit a large number of horses it terms of their shape but they have to be brought far enough back. Some saddlers aren't too good at fitting them hence the idea that they are banana shaped, they probably haven't been adjusted properly.

Hope this helps.

We have 2 Kieffers for OH's horse - both have been widened and we have been assured both by Kieffer and our excellent independant saddle fitter (who doesn't sell Kieffer) that there is no chance of the tree springing back after adjustment

We have a Garmisch GP and a Rusty Wall Street dressage and neither has a banana shaped tree - both very flat and similar to the Basnby my lad has - saddler told us trees were excellent BUT the original padding can sometimes be a bit hit and miss as they fill by machine rahter than hand so can sometimes be a bit lumpy of overfilled - easily sorted though.
