Thought I'd share some findings. ..

Benzyl benzoate (99% pure water soluble) mixed in a 1:20 dilution with johnsons baby oil spray makes fab sweet itch lotion. Shake to mix!

The coat still gets a little grubby like it does from killitch lotion but it prob equates to 5£ a bottle rather than 25 £:) lovely and soothing!

I used to use Benzyl Benzoate, and diluted it with surgical spirit, roughly two parts BB to one part SS.

As my boy seems to be getting a bit more resilient with age, I can now make do with avon skin so soft dry oil spray as a repellent, sudocrem if he does get bitten and several bug rugs. The avon stuff seems to make his skin less scaly so less prone to scurf and less prone to scratching as he's comfier and he smells nicer than when on the previous mix.

I do realise though that a flare up will send us straight back to the benzyl routine so may well try out your recommendation, I always seemed to get the surgical spirit everywhere apart from in the mixing bottle! Johnsons oil would be a much less smelly spillage.

WelshD very good point which I should have said! Only for mane and tail to prevent. .. not on bald patches. Baby lotion is better for that :)
