Hi. trying a new kimblewick bit, just for a little more control when in the arena etc at shows ready for jumping etc as he has a tend to swerve a bit to see the crowds, he is a poser. So tell me, tried it tonight, he was fine but how the heck do you keep the chain thing done up under the chin??? He seems to have worked out already that he shakes his head and voila!!!

The chin thing done up???? Do you mean the curb chain? Is there a metal chain? If so it needs to be twisted straight and then hooked to the tightness you require (loose when standing, only coming into action when rein is applied).

I do think you need someone experienced to check you have fitted it correctly though, you shouldn't go on a wing and a prayer where bits are concerned

When we get new bits at the shop with curb chains, the hooks are loose, tighten the off side one up with some pliers, and tighten the near side one up a little too, but so that you can still get the chain on and off on the nearside, that should do the trick.

just re-read your message weezy, think you meant that i shouldnt try and fit one without being shown instead of implying that i had bought one the wrong size. sorry! too much vino..... jnet thanks, one side is tight and one side is loose but obviously a bit too loose. will get help tomorro, i like a bit of background noise when riding but not the constant jangling of the curb chain!

You could also take the chain off (I hate curb chains with a passion) and replace it with a curb strap instead.
