I'm looking to try my lovely Connie in a ported Kimblewick for certain situations, but I do not understand how the lip strap would attach.
Would it be used without one?

I do like the idea of a leather covered curb chain. Can anyone share their own experiences please?

A kimblewick is used without a lip strap, I've not used a leather curb chain myself, but if your horse is sensitive it might be more comfortable for him. You can also get rubber covers for curb chains. IME when buying curb bits they clamp one of the curb hooks shut on the chain- presumably to keep it from getting lost, but highly irritating when you want to change/adjust it! So if buying new, you may want pliers to hand.

That's helpful, thank you! I've had her for 6 years and she's never been ridden in a curb during that time, so thought it best to try something covered first.

No experience with kimblewicks but my lad prefers a leather curb to fully metal one. They're not expensive if you wanted to give it a go :)
