A kind of what would you pay/offer thread?

I'm currently looking at a horse registered with the IHB he's a rising 3 gelding 16.2hh to make 17hh, very good lines predominantly TB x ID one side, other side is mostly TB but last 2 generations both sides are Appaloosa - he's Leopard spotted.

He's be professionally broken last summer & done some small 60cm training shows then turned out to grass all winter which is where he is now.

So, would you say he's worth £3k or am I paying for the spots? lol He sounds just my cup of tea regardless of colour.

He was broken and jumping at training shows when he was 2  that would put me off as I would worry about future soundness.

£3k is about right otherwise if conformation and movement are good enough.

3k sounds a lot so yes I think you're paying for spots.
I have just bought a gorgeous rising 3 year old TB cross for a fraction of the price, and he's a quality horse :D

Impossible to say without seeing him in the flesh for conformation and movement.

For a nice quality 3yo, 3K is fine.

My concern is that he is rising 3, already broken & jumping and for that reason I wouldn't even pick up the phone as it sounds like someone is out to make a quick buck

Impossible to say without seeing the horse.

I paid over £2k for my ID xTB as a weanling which I am sure the people of HHO would think is a ridiculous price but until you have seen the horse in question, you can't really say. And mine doesn't even have spots!

(and also people on HHO do tend to either think everything should be under £1k regardless of quality, breeding, conformation and you are a mug to pay a penny more, even if you are buying a horse which has won Badminton! ;))

Yeah my current boy I didn't back until 3 & a half & didn't do much until well gone 4.

Rang alarm bells with me but have asked the extent of the ridden work so will see what is said. If he's been ridden for months then no chance but I could probably let a few weeks go.

If I was to buy it would be subject to a 5 stage & I'd probably turn him away for a good few more months to mature with no work.

I'll have a re think that's for sure!

I paid £2500 for my TBXID Skewbald. She was 5. But hadn't done much schooling. Loves jumping and sensible and honest.

I personally wouldn't buy a Horse that has been backed under 3 1/2 as I think it will lead to future soundness issues.

Hmm perhaps I should just push it to the back of my mind & forget about him then, worried me now as to unknown extent of damage that may have been done regardless if I turn him away for a few more months to mature.

I wouldn't even pick up the phone. All that as a rising three year old. No way.

And having an Appy personally I wouldn't have another - bad experience ;)

My EDT once said to me "dotty horse, dotty brain" Oh so true! Mum loves him, but he's certainly got "quirky" pinned.
