Poor old Merlin has been in the wars this week. He lives out and somehow he managed to get his hind foot caught in the belly straps of his rug on Thursday and it was a few hours before we spotted it.
He has seriously huge cut under his fetlock. We're HOPING there's no tendon damage but it is a huge cut - right from one side to the other - and so he's now on box rest, dosed up on bute and antibiotics and having his (now swollen) leg hosed down twice a day.
Poor boy - but just one of those things. He's been wearing the same rug in winter for 4 years with no probs. The straps weren't dangling or anything but it is a Rambo wug, with the straps VERY strong, so they didn't give way.

Anyway - please think kind thoughts for his recovery.

poor boy, George got his foot stuck in his fillet string once, but being a bit of lazy bugger he just stayed laid down until someone helped him!

Hope your boy is ok.

Poor Merlin, (((big hugs))) and *healing vibes* for him, hope he gets better soon

Hope he feels better soon. My old mare did the same thing, came down to find her on three legs. Luckily not a mark on her although her leg remained swollen for a good few days.

thanks all.
The vet thinks he's been a lucky boy, but he's on box rest for at least 2 weeks.

I am a bit worried that he's not eating though - the phrase 'eating like a horse' could have been coined for Merlin - it's just not like him.
I've got some convalescent mix for him, with lots of treats and carrots to keep his interest up, but any advice on it would be welcome.

Poor old Merlin...... my Merlin sends him some vibes..... they are a clumsy race, Merlins.
