Kindest and most effective

Have been reading a well known website about tack which has got me thinking (I know, I will avoid this site in future

)When ridden Monty is generally a gobby g*t and has a tendency to open his mouth to evade so what noseband would you use to encourage him not to?

His teeth have recently been done and he is currently being ridden in a jp loose ring french link snaffle with a crank noseband

Any suggestions?

drop noseband, definitely. correctly fitted, 4 fingers' width above top of nostril, they don't have to be tight to be effective.

Would be my choice aswell. Very under rated nose band these days and far more effective than a flash

EXACTLY what I was going to say! Drop. Matter of fact I just bought another one on ebay, only about £5 brand new! As I broke the keeper on my one, I love 'em, they are good for a mouthy one but not too much clutter on the head, and I don't like the crank as I think it can be too tight. Also I don't like to see too much leather all over their faces and they feel itchy.

The spanish riding school of vienna invented them apparently!

I was going to say drop aswell.

Used to hack a horse out for a friend who was VERY "gobby" and she used to just let him put his head down, tounge over the bit and tank off! She HAD a drop, but she took it off and just put a plain caversson on! Needless to say I used to change it over on the rare occassions I rode him...and it worked!
