I have had a phone call from a horse owner in Kingston Seymour near Clevedon, just off the M5 regarding three suspicious vehicles, the occupants have been casing local yards there. Also last Tuesday 2 ponies were found loose from their field in a lane,, both had obvious whip marks, which would be an indication that someone had tried, and failed, to load them.

The three vehicles are a silver Land Rover Discovery, reg W556 SDD (reg checked, unregistered or false plate), a blue transit with ladders on the roof, and a red Sherpa.

This is a genuine shout. The person who reported it followed the silver Disco, which was being driven in a very suspicious manner. Police have been informed.

I have heard that horses (coloureds especially) are now being 'sourced' for the market in the middle east and they are being shipped over there.

Which is maybe why lots of people have been seen photographing to steal to order for what is presumably a very lucrative market? Don't know if this is complete nonsense though - just what I have heard...

Coloured cobs have always been high on the nickable list. I have noticed that in the last few years the more athletic sport horse type of coloureds have been targeted, maybe more suitable for the sport of road racing?

The Middle East, hmmm, it's theory I suppose, although I don't imagine that a hairy coloured cob would thrive well in the heat of the Middle Castern countries.

That what I thought - but horse stealers probably aren't the brightest.

why on earth would people nick horses from and take them to eastern europe when they ship thousands of heavy horses/cobs a year to slaughter??

that wouldnt make any sense whatsoever...

Have only just read this post. But a few weeks ago driving back from Clevedon I noticed 2 horses on a piece of land right next to the motorway, I mean there was only the motorway barrier stopping them being on the motorway. I rang the police and informed them but heard nothing more. I'm guessing the horses could have escaped, but there looked to be pretty good post and rail between the fields and this strip of land.
