I think it's absolutely normal for horse people to want to know what caused the death of a horse on a BE course.

I hope the rider is OK.
.

I agree to some extent. But so soon after it happened is a bit insensitive IMO. The details usually come out at a later date.

I don't think people on a chat forum should be made to be feeling uncomfortable about perfectly normal horse chat. It will be being talked about the same way in any eventing livery yard this morning. It's now humans cope with bad things that happen, talking about them.

Just my opinion, I understand the fact that yours differs.

Like I said, my opinion. Perhaps people shouldn’t post on a forum if responses might make them feel uncomfortable.

True, you do have to be strong to post on a forum. I just wanted to support MM and let her know I didn't think she was a bad person for asking a question plenty of people connected in some way with eventing are asking this morning.

In my experience, also, it's normal to know the next day how a fatality occurred, and unusual if it isn't being talked about. That in itself raises curiosity levels about what actually happened.

Rotational fall at the third part of a treble in the novice. It was the riders third ride round the novice and towards the end of the class. It dosnt seem that that combination had been causing an issue and it was a genuine freak accident. The course had been riding well with excellent ground (direct information for people that were there) and it was towards the end of the day.

Rider is in hospital, has 2 fractured vertebrae. I feel for the owners of the horse along with the rider.

Thanks, Im sorry AandK that you were offended. I simply wanted to know if it happened at a jump and if it was rotational. As an eventer, surely we all need to fully understand the risks and what can happen. Everyone on FB seemed to know what happened, its normal to talk about these things. Its extremely horrific when a horse loses its life and a rider is badly injured, who wouldnt want to know how it happened?

Plus there were wild rumours going round as to what had happened. (Different horse/rider/cause). Speculation isn’t terribly helpful and best to know the truth of what happened.

The rest of the event was abandoned. It was the last horse to go in the N. The rider had already won and was 3rd in the ON. So not a case of inexperience and sadly just a horrific accident.

No more news on the rider so I hope that means he is doing ok.

Thanks doodle, Ive seen an update and photos that the riders had his 2 broken vertebrae stabilised and is now heading home which is pretty amazing. I heard it was a rotational so very sad and Im sure BE will be analysing what happened. Poor horse :(
