Kirsty Wark asks is 'sentencing for rioters over the top'

No its not over the top.

These 2 lads actively encouraged people to start riots where countless lives would have been ruined either through personal injury be it rioters, public or police and business and homes destroyed and they deserve everything they got.

I find it ironic that we cry out for strong sentences and when there is one we cry out its too harsh.

Good blog.

It is Kirsty Young's job to ask questions like this and it is our job to think about the answers. That is right and proper.

Would you rather Britain turned into Zimbabwe, where journalists are routinely tortured and killed for asking such questions? Or China, where having a discussion like this would get you arrested.

Yep - she's obliged to ask that kind of thing. And some of those sentences are absolutely deserved, but a lot of people also seem to be getting unduly harsh treatment.

(if you liked that take on the riots, Seafarer, you might also enjoy this, which rather summed up how I felt: http://nathanieltapley.com/2011/08/10/an-open-letter-to-david-camerons-parents/ Nick Clegg didn't get six months in jail for setting fire to a collection of rare cacti: http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/pol...ib-Dems-Nick-Clegg-tells-of-prickly-past.html )

One of my friends was at Oxford with Dave and Boris and their crew and has always maintained they are a bunch of thugs :D

Some parts of my home town are unrecogniseable to me and are more like Mogadishu these days; Shootings seem to be so common place they don't always make the headlines anymore unless its a policeman who's been shot at.
Cleary these two lads are being made an example of, perhaps it will make others think twice before they set fire to someones business or home.
