Hi, we brought a sweet little mare a year ago as a companion only she's only 9 yrs old, we where told she has kissing spine under the saddle area, and used to jump and just all of a sudden started playing up, x-rays showed she had the kissing spine.
Anyway, although she is very pampered with us she looks bored just sat in the field, is there any chance after a year her kissing spine may of righted its self?
I dont know much about it and would love to take her out for little hacks even if it was just a walk to get her out of the field.

I wouldn't know about kissing spine sorting itself out but there are operations that can be done. I heard of lots of racehorses who have kissing spine ops and they continue to race and jump. Talk to your vet. Is she insured?

You'd be best to google kissing spine, but I think it's a misalignment of the vertabrae, and it's permanent. Horses that are ridden with it tend to turn in circles, rear etc, due to the pain. You can only go by what your vet says, it could be very dangerous for both of you.

Can you try leading in hand ? sm x

I could lead her out, however she is very head strong, I may buy a trailer again one day and I could show her in hand, that would get her out I suppose and she is very pretty.
My insurance wouldn't cover it, she was diagnosed with her old vet and insurance company and I brought her as a companion.

I would only consider sitting on her if the vet gives the go ahead. It really is a very painful condition - the vertabrae meet I think. Do a search on here, and there are lots of posts about it (which is where I learnt about it btw :D) which are very interesting.

A horse I know, an ex-eventer has KS. My friend tried riding him after a long rest, and the horse circled and reared till she was on the floor. I couldn't believe the owners had let her try - and even then they were considering trying again. Tbh, the horse was best left as a companion or pts. They couldn't even afford the needed xrays, let alone the op. Grrrrr

Maybe you could start bringing her in and doing some basic groundwork with her in a bridle ? With a view to showing later on, and it'd give her something to think about. It's a very tough one.

Any piccies btw ? :D sm x
