Hi guys I am going to build a blog on this for info for others but still sliding along the edge of a rollercoaster psychologically.
My perfect horse was diagnosed with KS and had his op on Friday afternoon. Standing Surgery with sedation and local anaesthetic looks very perky today I was told he can come home. It was only two dorsal processes and if all goes to plan I believe I have 4 weeks box rest walking in hand the 6 weeks turnout.
 
Would be fascinated to hear your experiences. Haven't any personal experience of KS but think it's amazing how treatment of the condition has progressed and it sounds as though your horses treatment was not too invasive - would imagine that has to be good news for his recovery

Good luck with his recovery - mine had the KS op at Willesley (before Breadstone!), but he had it under full general aneasthetic as he also had another procedure done on his right hind fetlock.

Taking them home is the best feeling in the world!

Keep us posted with his progress :)
 
Ok so the boy came home and was frighteningly alert stomping and kicking his stable door which he never does. I fed Hayed rugged and then ran as I think he reacts to my prescence as a supplier of food and field.

The other liveries were sending me texts to say he was ok one even popped in on her way home from the pub.

He has a tiny incision and dressing and no meds just dressing changes. Then vetcheck on 2nd November.
The instructions say something along the lines of keep him in until he is ballistic then walk him quietly avoiding any shenanigans or explosive behaviour.


Well actually walk in hand for 4 weeks building up from 5 mins to 30 mins.

He was a bit attention seeking this morning so I walked in hand for 4 mins then let him eat the grass in all the cracks near the water pipe. Saving the other minute for a mooch this afternoon.

Gave him soaked hay and he said I am NOT eating that rubbish. Hey ho onwards and upwards.
 
My mare had the op at bushy in breadstone.
This was about 10 yeras ago.
Slightly different recovery plan but she made a full reovery.
