Hi, I have just found out my 6yo TB has a severe case of Kissing spine and the Vet is recommending surgery.
Does anyone have any experience of this and what rehab was involved and was it successful?
I am a novice when it comes to this and I am worried that I wont have the experience to deal with the rehab or that it wont work and I will have but him through it for nothings.
Advice and experience , good or bad will be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks x

Hi,

My 4 yr old was diagnosed with severe KS and had the ligaments cut on 1st Sept. Rehab has had its ups and downs as he also had SI injury. His SI was medicated twice and I am still doing lunge work at the moment in walk and trot. We are doing trotting poles now aswell. He has weekly physio sessions and does carrot stretches twice a day, along with strapping.
I have not used any gadgets on him whatsoever (he had a fear of being tacked up anyhow when I got him (May this year!))

He is now finally, in this last week, stretching down freely on his own accord on both reins for nearly an entire circle (I leaped with joy!!!)

Its hard work, but you can do it. Lots of handwalking, long reinging and lunging. Lots of grooming, strapping and stretches to help strengthen the back..........the reward...... ? A horse that becomes far more in to you than you can imagine. A closer bond than you ever come imagine from just riding them.

Believe me, I've been through hell and back with tantrums, bombing off, exploding etc but now I wouldn't change it for the world.

Last night I got to lay across his back and do you know he did not budge one bit from his haynet, he just thought "oh yeah its just you mum, do what you want" :-0)

Good luck x
