Kissing Spine Operations - bruising/swelling

Hi,

My horse had surgery in October but had his interspinous ligament cut and seems to be doing well. My friends horse had the process removed in Oct and has just got on board after rehabbing him. His spine is lumpy but non painful to touch. Have you had lots of physio? I would stay clear from equissage type pads as i have heard they can aggrevate KS horses. Magnetic therapy is supposed to be very good (im savig for a mag rug and boots) hope your boy is ok :) x

I love magnets! Moose has the magnetic back pad and leg wraps by equalibrium. My vet said it was okay to use the massage pad. I use the equalibrium and it did reduce some swelling but it is key to get the vets permission as to when it is an acceptable time frame to use it

The cyclosage rug made my horse worse. He was doing really well in the rehab until I started to use this rug. But I have heard that it has done other horses good. It is complicated with my boy as I think he has ulcers and the cyclosage may have aggravated them with all the vibrating.

I have a magnetic rug and this really helped my boy when I used it for an hour or two before exercise.

Hmm he has a magnetic rug but I thought that would be more invasive than the cyclossage. He seems so much better after the cyclossage?

Ultrasound today showed the spine is remodelling - this will occur and change as he builds topline. No chips etc or fluid or infection the lump is internal scar tissue. Vet has prescribed a cream which have to put on twice a day for 2 wks. He palpitated the area and horse didn't even move. Put roller n and his ears went back but nothing else. Put saddle on and he was fine.

So vet said to get cracking and try sitting on him again. I prodded the lump and he reacted but nowhere near as bad. He was fine when I touched the surrounding area and of course the saddle doesn't touch the spine.

I am going to get a physio out so that shall be my next thread as don't know of any good ones in Essex.

So feeling better but we shall see what happens after we apply the cream (and then he will be brought back into work). But I will get physio out in the meantime.

Thanks everyone for your help and advice - it was great to get everyone else's experiences. Good luck everyone as well!
