Hi all, I have just found out that my 4yr old mare has kissing spines. She has been medicated with steroids between T14-T18, and has had tildren also. I have been advised to change my saddle as I have a close contact jumping saddle.
Can people advise me on what saddle is best for her and also what has worked for there horse. No doom and gloom posts please. Im fully aware and just keeping my fingers crossed. Thanks in advance. X

I've been in a similar position to you. I'd report in vet section as I got some really helpful advice and info. And there is a Facebook page if you search for horses with kissing spine. I have a cc jump saddle and vet didn't seem to think there was an issue with that. A well fitting saddle is the key I think, and most people seem to think a treed saddle is better. Likely to change shape with treatment and rehab so regular checks too, best of luck. It's a tough road but loads more positive stories around now and improved treatment options. xx

Different sport, but there have been racehorses that have recovered and competed. I thought Somersby was one, and in searching Google for it, I found a story about a top Mick Channon flat horse, Halicarnassus, who also suffered from the condition, but competed at a high level, and One Nation (another Knight horse) who won chases. Couldn't find anything on Somersby, but someone else on the board might be able to confirm or rubbish it
