1. Has anyone’s horses symptoms been really dipping their back when you get on (very occasionally) but still working ok
2. Can the portable x ray machines scan the back or does it need the more heavy duty equipment?
3. After the operation, is box rest vital?

The reason I ask is my horse has started dipping his back, only done it twice in the last 2 months when I’ve gone to get on, and has then been fine. Saddle has all been checked and he regularly sees the physio. I’m just wondering if kissing spines could be an option, I’ve got the vet out next week but wondering if it’s worth asking him to bring the xray machine.
As he also has spavins and coffin joint djd, he would really struggle if he had to be box rested for any period of time
Obviously, he may not have it but I’d just like to be prepared if I need to add it to his list of ailments!

Thank you

1. no, no back dipping but had no ridden symptoms, physio spotted it

2. yes

3. no, mine had to go out after 2 weeks, he was leathal to hand graze! He stayed in until the staples came out

Thank you, will see if physio can come out before vet next week
vet did mention some 'close vertebrae' last year but theres never been any issues ridden or otherwise and nothing has been picked up since

Hopefully it is not KS, but it is very wise to keep an eye on the little things! Mine showed up at a routine physio check up, soreness under the saddle that had never been there before, I got referred for x-rays and they showed he had 2 touching and 2 close, he had the surgery 2 weeks later, good luck :)
