Knee boots needed - any suggestions?

My 5yo connie tripped over his own feet this morning and fell on his knees out hacking, VERY fortunately we were on a soft lane so he didn't hurt himself but it shook me up and I obviously want to get him some knee boots...

I'd love the westropp combined brushing /knee boots but they're not in production and showing as out of stock everywhere. .

Can anyone recommend a pair of non slip knee boots that would fit a 13.2 so I can hack out again...

Everything on the yard hacks in knee boots so we've tried a fair few different brands. Jefferies are the best by a mile, followed by the westropp combined knee and brushing boots. Found the woof wear, roma and westropp knee boots fall down too easily, especially if you're doing fast work or they rub their head. I bought a pair of jefferies on ebay for £30, probably my best horsey buy and can't say any of my other horse boots would have decent secondhand value.
 
I use the Roma ones but ive had a devil of a job finding a pair to fit ! They all come up pretty big so every pair i tried fell down. Ive bought and sold about 6 pairs of varying makes and styles. The pair i now use are still slightly big (they are cob size) so i have to do them up super tight, and luckily i dont go very fast out hacking.

I had seen the roma ones, but try sound like more trouble than they're worth.

I need something ideally by the weekend. .

I use them every time I ride and they have never slipped although the leather will stretch with use over time. I make sure they are cleaned properly to keep them supple and as DP is capable of tripping over a blade of grass they have saved his knees on several occasions.
 
I posted a wanted ad on my local horsey Facebook pages, and was offered about 6 pairs of the Westropp ones within an hour - lots of people seem to have a pair stashed away! I posted a pic of what I was after, as a lot of people don't know what they are!
 
Jeffries are the best but soooooo expensive. Take a look on ebay & you'll find plenty of leather knee boots at more reasonable prices, some with felt backing & some skeleton boots. I've always bought leather, I trust them more than the vinyl ones.

Do you think the gibsons saddlery ones look similar to jeffries, as they are an awful lot cheaper. .

I'd like to get some ordered tonight as we are going on a forest ride on Saturday :)

The Jeffries ones have a felt like front with the padded leather protection pad over the knee whereas the Ascot are a suede like material. Mine get a good dose of winter mud, are scrubbed in the sink, dried and then have leather balsam applied and they come up beautifully.

I suppose it depends on how much you want to spend and how long you are going to use them for. The trip may have been a one off and over £100 for a just in case he does it again is a lot of money whereas £40 isn't quite as bad. Either way both will do a good job and for me it's peace of mind more than anything else.
 
I have Jeffries ones. Skeleton boots. Love them and feel they are worth the investment. Have an old pair that must be 15 years old that I use on the old girl (got a shiney new ones for the youngster though) and they are still going strong despite some neglect in their history. They needed serious oiling when I dug them out to start using a few years ago.

Thanks so much for all your advice. . Ordered from Gibsons earlier... Hope they come quickly..

Silly pony has done it twice now , so he will not be hacking again without knee protection. ..

Not for a few years anyway, when he hopefully strengthens up and I can trust him again.

My knee boots from Gibson saddlery have arrived, and they are gorgeous.

Ordered on Tuesday evening, parcel on Thursday.

Can't wait to try them tomorrow.

Glad they have have arrived and you like them. Make sure they are done up nice and tight at the top and the lower strap is loose enough for the horse to bend its knee without interference. DP has them on the 7th hole at the top and 2nd hole at the bottom and we walk trot and canter without them ever slipping.
