Hi,

Can anyone recommend some good ones? They are just for hacking on the roads - I think I heard leather ones are the strongest - has anyone actually had a horse fall on neoprene/leather ones and know which offer the best protection?

Also, cheap as poss!!

Haven't any experience of it, but I've heard leather is better

Hi. I did a post about knee boots in the stable yard section of the forum the otherday, will be either on the first or the second page if thats any help!
 
You need to buy leather skeleton boots - they have a hard bit to protect the knees from falls on the road. Mine were a godsend when my youngster bolted and fell over. Def saved her knees. I think Jeffires to them?
 
I've had a horse fall on it's knees without boots, and then again with neoprene boots. These didn't offer much protection at all, she opened up her scar despite the boots and we didn't use them again.

The leather ones are the best, we used Jeffries with fabric backing as they were softer against her scar. However do be careful when using them all the time - she got a callous on the back of her knee joint from them as she had to wear them whenever she was ridden.
 
Those knee knockers are ideal for cross country & hunting but they're not really designed to protect a horse out hacking who falls to it's knees. You need a leatherr knee boot with bottom straps that prevent the boot riding up away from the knee it should be protecting. These knee knockers won't do that.
