Knee protection in field

Morning, everyone,
I'd appreciate some advice on knee and foreleg protection for my Walking Disaster Area of a retired racehorse. He has, unbelievably, been pin-fired at around 5 years old (he's just turned 9), and last October suffered a serious carpal wound that nearly messed up his knee joint permanently. Now he has caused himself a full-thickness wound AGAIN on the same knee! He wears over-reach boots as a matter of course when he"s turned out and very effective fly boots in summer (sorry everyone, I've just gone italic by mistake!!).
I have seen Westropp knee and tendon boots which look at first glance, ideal, but does anyone have other suggestions as to the best way to protect his spindly, scar-ridden legs and knees?

If he really does need boots in the field the Westropp knee/brushing boots are great but not really designed for turnout, I wouldn't leave them on for more than a few hours.
However they're quite generous (full fitted my cob with 10.5" bone) so you' possibly only need Cob size
Not sure if they still make them tbh although ebay probably has some!

Thank you, that’s given me food for thought. Charlie does have sensitive skin so I’ll bear that in mind, also your comment in sizing - he’s 16.2, but has very slender legs.
