Knobberisms: "The Great Rug Murders of 2011" and "Getting my Own Back"

slinky/tinsel - ha, excellent work outta the BGL!

SavingGrace - yours looks very pretty in pink, but I think if I bought a rug that colour near mine I'd have a job getting it on him for him to rip in the first place :D

Another horse in the field had a purple zebra print rug on. He spent half an hour snorting at it before it went on and it was off within 1 hour of him being turned out in the field. Owner swapped it to his blue rug (same weight ;)) and it's still on four days later. Say what you like, they have fashion sense :D

Awe I am sure he would be fine, besides unless you have mirrors in your paddock he won't see it lol!

Out of interest, what make is that rug? I'd send it back:(

It's a Harlequin Equine I think, bought 'secondhand' (had been put on once but didn't fit seller's horse) from ebay so no sending it back. TBH I don't think it's any mark against the brand - Bucas rugs are amazing but you should see the number of repairs on his, and what he managed to do to it to finally kill it ;)

I reckon embarrassing rugs might be the way, this one lasted 4 yrs.Maybe Hawaian stops them ripping it.

Bloody hell Trish. That is actually almost not funny! BH would be out naked if he did that to two rugs in four days. What an absolute toad. Glad you're still smiling. I'd be livid!

Reggie keeps his own rugs fairly nicely, as he is a wimp who gets very cold. However, he had no qualms about removing my poor lad's rug 2 winters ago in the snow. He ripped it off backwards, leaving poor old Cheeky with just a neck on, shivering!

FDC - POOOOOOR cappy!

I love the *almost* ;) Can't help but laugh at him... it's the facial expressions that go with the knobbish behaviour that save him. I do think he should be more grateful that he ended up with an owner who has a sense of humour though

HA! That's the way to do it, Monty Knobberts could learn a few things from your boy I think ;)

Trish - Have you wondered that monty knobberts may be exposing his chest in an attempt to get you to buy him a big shiney gold medallion for xmas?:D

Could mean the advantage once more slides your way , especially if he touches the leccy fence....:D:D (No animals were hurt during this thought process!)

Its ok,last year I put a brand new rug on my cobblet,a week later he had pulled one of the surcingles off. Had to put the old one back on. He is also a rug beater. So right now he is rugless.Took me ages to fix the darn thing.

Ha, you mean maybe that browband has given him the taste for bling?! Love it :D

I did notice that he is now surrounding himself with pretty girls in the field... maybe I should get him a purple fur-lined velvet rug to go with the medallion?!

Mares are the answer! We even have, shhhhhh barbed wire, eeeek and my cob mare will be out in her Premier Equine for the 3rd winter, even my young TB lady is on her 2nd year in a FalPro. Gelding in the next field trashed 3 in one day last winter.
Obviously girlies have far fewer knobberish tendencies (there's always the exception FDC ;) )
:D :D :D :D

Haha yes I totally agree. My mare is wearing her cheapo rug that I bought second hand off eBay for £12 for the fifth winter. In a field with barbed wire. And she is a Welsh Cob.

Oh dear o dear :p
I know how you feel with the rug situation, J horsey pulled the neck clean off his fly rug in the summer and left it hanging on the fence where he committed the crime and we bought another identical rug and it got ripped the whole length of it so i just sowed it up
Is that the HKM V shaped browband? :)

Oh MY! :D :D

Three possible solutions:

1. Duct tape. And lots of it. There are two or three episodes of Mythbusters specifically exploring the virtues of this almost-magical substance; you might wish to watch these for inspiration!

2. Let him grow a winter coat, and bung him out without a rug on. :p

3. Send all these photos to various rug companies, and suggest that they sponsor you by sending you rugs...if they survive, they can then legitimately call them "indestructible" on the label! :)

Love 3, would so love to chance my arm for this! :D

It's an Irish thing eh ;) It's a Cottage Craft one - fine and cheap! I do like the HKM ones though, they're lovely as well.

I'd go with the duct tape idea. And wrap him up like a Christmas present.

If that fails, staples?

Actually made me laugh out loud!

Sorry but that really really made me laugh!! BTW just coz I'm a nosey cow what bedding do you use?

It's a sand-bottomed stable :) He lives out anyways so he's only in his 'cell', as I think he prefers to think of it, for a very short time each day. The YO put them in as she had a laminitic mare and she'd heard they were very good for that - they worked for her anyways. I really like them - they have haybars for hay as obv you can't feed the hay off the sand, but they drain so quickly, are very quick and easy to muck out and must be nicer than concrete for the horses to stand on :-)

LOL Gotta love a knobber! :D Loving the bling. :)

Glad he can keep people entertained anyways :D

Nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah BATMAN! :D

I laughed so loud at this that speshul collie (knobber in canine form) shot out of his bed across the room head first into the door :D

When my cob was young he got his rug trashed got him in the stable and ranted at the poor sod do you know how much that cost worked my fingers to the bone etc etc must have worked hes now 21 never had a rug trashed since. And will turn on any horse who touches his rugs.

BayMonkey - that's the look he has on his face 99% of the time. I know people say horses aren't naughty for the sake of being naughty, but he genuinely is a bold boy and a complete clown who loves making people laugh. If he's in a stable and there's no-one around, he's an angel and will go to the back of the box and sleep, but if he's left in with people around he is constantly looking for trouble - anything within reach will be picked up, shaken, thrown around etc, he empties his grooming box, plays feed-bucket discus... and he makes the other liveries cry with laughter the way he milks sympathy - even if he's in the finest form of his life, if he so much as hears an utterance of the words "poooor monty", the head drops, the ears droop and the lip quivers! :D

Nell - that's my plan! Also hoping when we finally get out competing people will be so distracted by the gorgeous blingyness that they won't notice any giraffeness, or unintentional ponciness, or any other knobberisms in between!

Tracyeann, may I borrow your cob please, and I'll send Knobberts over to you for an education?! ;)

The mark of a true knobber. Mine is exactly the same! Knob head!!

Of course he is, yours is the blue-print for knobbers! Well was... I'm not sure I like this new angelic BH. :p

That said, the other day I found this photo of one of my previous horses, Basil... his knobberisms made Monty look like a mild-mannered donkey. They're so similar in personality, the more I think about it, the more I realise I've just bought a chestnut version of Basil ;)

Well Clydie mare has done her thing again - she is naked and her summer sheet was found in two pieces around her field.

Bothe back straps have come away at the stitching and she has removed the neck piece again from the stitching.

This mare is amazing - she never wrecks the rug but always manages to pull them apart at the stitching.

It's in the wash right now because it was rained on very heavily - the sort of rain where you pull over in the car because you can no longer see the road rain. It's consequently muddy and smelly!

Tomorrow to the saddler I go!

He pulled the rope through my hands on Sunday morning and peed off up the yard so he isn't being that good don't worry! And he threw a headcollar at me this morning and tried to push me over whilst I picked his feet out!
and aww, how lovely. A dun knobber! :)
