Know anything about horses with blue eyes???

I am thinking of buying a yearling from a friend that has blue eyes. He is a coloured cobX welshie and has the most amazing blue eyes. I just wonder if anyone has any info about blue eyes that I should be aware of.....ie. is it a sign of eye problems etc... I don't want to go into this without knowing everything I need to know ! Would they be called "wall eye " as well or is that something completely different?
Would be love to hear from you if you have any knowledge in this area !!
 
Blue eyes are only a different pigment- his vision should be fine. It's quite common where the face has a lot of white around the eye - so in coloureds of various types.
It is called a 'wall' eye as well as other names. The only downside is that some people believe it to be an indicator of an unhelpful temperament, so would pay less for a wall eyed horse.

I owned a gelding many years ago and he had 2 wall eyes as they were called then. Dont know if they are called anything different now. He was a strawberry roan with a black mane and tail and his name was BLUE! His sight was fine and I never had any problems. He was as gentle as they come and was only 2.
 
Blue eyes are a little like Marmite, you either like them or hate them. I happen to like them, which is just as well as my mare has two. As far as I'm aware there are no more problems with blue eyes than there are with brown eyes. You may find that a blue eyed horse might blink more frequently in very bright sunlight but that's about it.
 
my horse has one blue eye or wall eye whatever people call them. and i love it because it is unique :) most people think its weird but i love it lol

Good to know that they are just another eye colour as opposed to anything wrong !! It is, like someone said, the same as peoples reaction to marmite!. The first time I saw him I thought he was stunning !!!
What about if you want to show..local level inhand to start with.. he is part bred welsh but is it looked down on in showing circles to have blue eyes?

So right, blue eyes are just like marmite, you love them, or you hate them.

The only horse I have ever owned that had eye problems had regulation brown eyes. I have 2 horses with blue eyes, neither has vision problems. The only problem I DO have is with the white faced mare, all that pink skin requires Factor 50 and a mask in summer, and sometimes winter, her skin is sensitive to sun and wind.

As for showing, I don't know about pb welshies, in our breed shows, for her pattern, blue eyes are practically requisite!
I have always thought that to penalise a horse for having blue eyes is quite ridiculous, unless it is against breed descriptions. I can't see, how, in the real world, it can affect a horse.

 
My welsh x has blue eyes, she is lovely natured. I was told once that the native americans prized coloured horses with blue eyes, because the were coloured threw and threw. :)

 
My boy has one blue eye and there is no problem at all!! They aren't a flaw or a deficiency, they are simply like any other marking.
I plan to show my blue eyed boy to a fairly high level, and was warned not to buy him when I went to see him, so I have done lots of reading up on them. A horse should never ever be marked down because of a blue, contrary to popular belief, and the BSPA even have a rosette for highest placed blue eye in some classes...



 
I have a welsh x with two blue eyes and he has never had a problem. His face is very white and his marking runs across his eyes in a weird pattern but he is no less handsome!!!

My yard owner has 2 cremello mares with blue eyes, a perlino filly with blue eyes and a perlino stallion that has got blue eyes. She has'nt had a problem with any of hers apart from being a bit more sensative to bright sunlight.
Some people say a horse with blue eyes can be a bit un predictable but all of hers a really sweet and well mannered x

I played with him yesterday and he has such a lovely nature. He's never been touched until this week and hasn't minded one bit being tied up, groomed, having his legs picked up....think I shall have to have him !!! hubbie will be so pleased that I have yet another 4 legged overdraft as he calls them !!! Will post a piccie if I can work out how to !

Wow your horse looks very similar to mine! Same shape head, nearly the same facial markings and the one blue eye!
 
I love blue eyes! I have a dapple grey KWPN with 2 blue eyes who is a stunner! I love the marmite comment its so true I get so many comments about my mare people either love her or hate her haha.

You are welcome for the link, there are some quite pretty horses on there.

My Paint has scary pale, pale eyes, she never quite looks as if she is on this same planet as the rest of us, I prefer the darker eyes of my other one.
