On racingpost, if you search a horse's name and it comes up as a 'dam' as well as a 'horse' (so in both sections) does that mean they've had a foal? Or just that they've been registered as a potential dam?

Really? How would you find out if they'd definitely had a foal, and what that foal had gone on and done?

Click on the name under Dam. Click on Progeny Sales.

Any offspring that has been through the ring will show up. If they have a name then they probably raced. If they dont have a name then they havent raced.

If you put the horse into Pedigree Query http://www.pedigreequery.com/ and then click on progeny it should bring up any foals....... :D

Dear, o dear, o deary me! Though I was brought up on a council estate - I learned to love all the ettiquette and defference in Hunting and Racing - and was always told that Horse have a bloodline and nothing else - a bit like the young female interviewer that was sent to Lady Jemmimah Twissington-Smythe ( not her right name ) who spoke about a famous pioneer woman trainer - "ah" says the youngster "that would be a trainer of racehorses?" "WELL OF COURSE DEAH!!! WHAT ELSE COULD IT BE?!!

A dog has a pedigree because it needs to be established - but as all racehorses are Thoroughbreds - they are a special case.
So I am quite amazed at the sight of "Pedigree" mention by people who should know better.
