Kolibri Breastplate

A random post really!!
I have decided that I am going to buy a Kolibri breastplate and although I know the green and yellow = Devoucoux, I do not want green and yellow elastic as nothing I own is green or yellow and it will not go with anything (fussy, I know!!) Anyway, I have decided to have one made with black elastic and when telling a friend this she said something along the lines of - if it does not have the green and yellow elastic then no one can tell it is Devoucoux and therefore you may as well get one of the cheap ones, you only spend Devoucoux prices if everyone can tell it is Devoucoux.
This does not actually bother me at all, I have chosen it because I like it the best - I don't care if people think it cost me around £200 or around £20.
What are your honest views on this?

That a) I would not spend that kind of money on a breastplate unless I had a hell of a lot more cash that I do - most of my money goes on comp fees and training, and b) that in your place I would buy the Jefferies version which is almost identical except the elastic is a different colour, it is still expensive enough to let you flash the cash, but it is not as pricy and does not have the wait-list of the devocoux version (assuming thre is s till a silly lead time for the devocoux ones).

I just dont see the point in them.
Moon's saddle slips back terribly without anything to stop it but a simple elasticated breastgirth which cost me £30 and has been used for years does the job perfecly. I 'bling it up' by putting a sheepskin cover on it

But I am not really asking if you would buy a Kolibri breastplate, the question is more about caring what people think of what you own.
My friend believes that if you spend a lot of money on something, everyone should know you have whereas I don't care what people think - that is more the question - do you care that others know how much you spent on things?!

No I don't care what people think, which is why if I wanted one like that I would buy the Jefferies one which is a)cheaper and b)comes with the colour elastic I want, rather than spend out on a Kolibri which is identical to the Jefferies one except the elastic is a different colour....

I find that my £15 english leather hunting breastplate works fine though!

I have the Jeffries one which has blue elastic with yellow in it. It is actually nicer quality leather than the Devoucoux one and cos i work in a saddlery i got it cost price, so under £100 !! I couldnt care less what people think, i bought it cos my boys saddle will slip back XC and he needs a running martingale so its easier putting one thing on instead of two! My saddle moves less than when i used an elastic breast girth and a separate running martingale.
Anyone who knows what the kolibri is knows how much they cost but most people will happily buy the cheaper version.

I dont care either, i but what is best for my horses and I really could not care what other people think ; if they think my equipment looks like amerigo or jefferies. I was considering getting the black kolibri but my eventers breastplate fitted ru's so saved my pennies! must mp you soon hun! x

They say that if you have more than one horse, for the same price it is better to buy a kate negus hunting and racing ones. Like Sarah Cutteridge uses as its more adjustable, or another make but by having the two, its gives more adjustment between horses, yet the same points of contact with the saddle, yet a 5 point one that isnt fitted to the horse can seriously restrict a horse while jumping???

are the kolibri ones made to measure then? i thought they must just come in a few different sizes. hmm. currently looking into having my old-fashioned elastic-Y breastplates modified to have an extra joint and strap to girth.

"THEY" are kate negus, so of course they are gona slag it off and tell you to get theirs!!!!!

I have got one and LOVE IT rather a lot

buttttt, I wouldn't change the colour of the elastic because it doesn't go with any of your stuff. Maybe I'm just shallow, but the whole point it to show off the brand with the elastic. Rather like the calvin klein line on boxers!!!!!!!!

JUST BECAUSE YOU DONT LET ANYONE TOUCH IT

and how can you go on the colour of the elastic.... yours doesnt match your bridle or your saddle

haha loser...

"THEY" are not just kate negus, other people have told me aswell! but granted i was talking from a point of view of maybe putting it on others, not just one!

You are exactly the same as my friend!! That really does not bother me!!
Whilst riding just now though, it occured to me that if I had a black one made it might, should I ever decide to sell it on, have a lower re-sale value than one with the standard green and yellow elastic. Do you think this would be the case?

The Kolibri come in ones size only but are very adjustable, not made to measure but made to order hence the wait for them. Have to say I have two of them as they match my saddles but have been very impressed with the jeffries copy.

if you dont care what people think save yr money and buy the jefferies or i think amerigo versions if you must have the five point thing but decnt hunting breatplate should do job and dont forget most eventers are wearing them JUST IN CASE the saddle slips when horse at full stretch not because they are riding some slad sided herring gutted creature and have to. so as boss says a breast girth probably do just as well!!

they do look very smart i'd love one if they were cheaper and did them in pony size!
however i use a smart leather hunting breastplate - i have to use a martingale and when hunting or jumping i like having the strap across the withers just incase i need to grab hold of something in an emergency!!

on that ebay one for sale it says about discolouration on the clips - not very impressed by that surely for that money they wouldnt do that?!

ive seen some cheaper copies and TBH they are just as nice if they did them in pony i would get a cheapy one and look after it well, wiould last just as long and look just as posh
