Kompeet/Equitop Myolplast/Cavalor Muscle Force - which one???

I have thought about these before. What do they actually do? Help the modern sport horse?

My vet has said before about the Myoplast and recommended it but that was more for topline, which my horse doesnt need.

I seen the Kompeet stand at Scope and thought about that until i seen the price! :o

Personally at those prices i would rather hire a "sports therapist" once a fortnight (should cost around the same amount as the cheapest option on your list) to give my horse a good massage. Far more beneficial to the horse IMHO :)

I do that already!!

the horse is a 5yo showjumper and my physio suggested putting her on one.

The kompeet is the cheapest though at £9 a week the others are £15 and £25 !!

I know! i cant afford that tbh!

Let me know how u get on with them if you do use them! Would be interested to know as my 5 yr old can be pretty stiff and if it worked id be interested in trying it!

Excellent:D

Did the physio explain why she wanted her on the supplement?

Just to help her really - she is jumping Newcomers and aimed at the 5yo this year is worked 4 to 5 days a week and after a discussion we decided to put her on something to help her muscles as she is still young

She suggested the Cavalor but i wanted to see other people opinions

I tried the equitop myoplast on my underdeveloped TB a while ago on the suggestion of my instructor. I got through 2 tubs and tbh I didn't really notice much difference at all, in fact the only time she looked really muscled up with a decent topline is after my instructor had her for 6 weeks! I know that's not very helpful to you but it proved to me what a difference correct work makes

I have been contemplating trying a muscle improver again and after speaking to a few people Feedmark do OptiMuscle which seems to give very good results although I've not used it myself. I've also recently seen an advert for M Power ( I think that's what it was called ) which is a new NAF supplement and in view of my experiences with Myoplast I may be inclined to give one of these a try.

There does seem to be mixed reviews on Myoplast and it's quite expensive if it doesn't work for your particular horse.

Oh. My. God. I can't believe the price of those products!

The first one is basically an oil supplement which you can get the same effect by feeding Micronised linseed at £1.32 per kg or 26p per day. The info on their website is also inaccurate as there are no studies which prove slower onset of fatigue on high fat diets and actually starch is a much better energy source for fast work.

Myoplast is an amino acid supplement and there is only any point supplementing the limiting one which is most likely to be lysine but you could also add methionine, both of which are available from Forageplus as straights for a fraction of the price.

I tried the Myoplast last year (luckily won in a horse magazine competition) but my horse wouldn't touch it. She hated the taste. Nothing would coax her to even try it. Never did find out whether it worked  Maybe worth bearing in mind before you spend £60+ on a tub. I wonder of they do 'samples'?

It is also perfectly safe to feed whey protein from a health food shop as a supplementary source of amino acids, just make sure it is a high purity non-flavoured one!
