Hi guys,

My sister is soon to be re-homing a beautiful little staffie, and had been on a spending spree at pets at home! :p

I remember reading somewhere that people fill kongs and freeze them to keep their dogs entertained when they are home alone for a wee while, but cant remember what it was you fill them with?!

Thanks in advance, and hopefully I'll get a picture of "daisy" for you when I get one! Can't wait to meet her!

Pâté, cream cheese, their normal food, chunks of carrot, kibble, mince, tinned fish, peanut butter, rice, anything they like.

For weight control, smear the inside with marmite or other spreadable stuff.

Slices of cheddar with maybe a few biscuits rammed in, pop in microwave for 20/30 secs to melt. Ram it all in really tight. then freeze :)

Tins of sardines/tuna work well too :)

Anything really - but NOT runny/moosy/gungy type stuff. Im not very clever and learnt the hard way with that.

I like the idea of microwaving the cheese before freezing - never thought of that :D

Their dry kibble mixed with tuna in and bowl then spooned into kong

A tin a chappie as thats very good to stuff in and last a while (no the whole tin, a big tin lasts ages i the fridge.

Primula cheese squeezed in

raw mince stuffed in

sandwich paste (some frozen some now) all take a while to lick out:p

Fish for dogs moose
Raw mince
Low sodium stock- plug the whole with a bit of bread- freeze
Tinned sardines
Pate
Cream cheese
Peanut butter/banana

Mine won't bother spending ages licking stuff out, which means I get a gross mess to try and hose out later - bleugh! I just put dry foods in and don't freeze, biscuits, cheese, or his meat if we're out in the evening. A kong wobbler is great for dry, unfrozen food - and can be another item on your sisters shopping list ;) :D

NB although probably not good if the dog can knock over expensive vases etc :p

I do natural yoghurt and then wrap in cling film and freeze - lasts him ages and is healthy and fairly cheap/low in cals! He has one every day!
