I know this has been done a thousand times, but ive finally got my backside in gear and im ready to send off Archie's passport to get his name changed and my name put on it.

Ive filled out the forms etc but in an email i recieved from the KWPN society it says about sending photos for identification (one from each side, one from the front of just the front legs, and one from the back of just the hind legs) and also a hair sample for DNA testing

Did anyone else have to do that for thier KWPN passport?

I did - felt bit stupid at the yard taking photos of her feet and legs and of course taking a hair sample! They are very thorough about verifying the horses identity which is to be admired I think. Got the passport back in two weeks.

you email them and they send you a credit card form to fill out, then you post that off with your passport.

im not sure what you mean by 'how much is the passport'? You dont pay for the passport, my horse came with a KWPN passport as thats what hes registered as. Im just paying to get my name put on and his competition name put on it - its just under £30 for both, approx 50euros.

It can add up to a lot, my mare is KWPN but registered with SHB GB, as she isnt a foal the registration with KWPN was going to cost me over £200 so didnt bother in the end. Shame as she is super bred.

I pulled some out of her tail as I pull it anyway - sent about 6/7 longish strands in a clear plastic bag - felt a bit like a mad scientist.....
Quite reassuring in a way though that they have your horses DNA on record should it ever be needed.
I'm sure you've thought of it but keep take a full photocopy before you post it - I sent mine special delivery too.

You must pull out the hair so that there are root follicle cells attached and not touch the end that has come out of the horse
The DNA bit is in the end that was in the body - that was what I was told when we had to supply DNA samples for the SPSS graded horses.

thats what i thought, thanx guys.

I shall be pulling a bit out of Archie's mane tonight then, with my little plastic bag to hand
