I am feeling nostalgic as I had several super weeks at L&A when I was a child. There where some lovely horses and a decent xc course if I remember rightly!

I wondered if anyone knows what it's like now.....?

I went there a few moons ago for a week's trekking with a friend. Remember Fleetwood, Dolly (who I did my first ever jump on over a branch and didn't tell the leader!) and...Duchess? Was a brilliant place, but felt sorry for the parents who had nothing to do! x

ETA - Oh and paddling in the stream outside the lodge and ruining my riding boots

There was a lovey cob type called Carrie that I rode year after year! Loved her and even tried to get them to sell her to me for about £10 (which was the spending money my parents had given me!)

Don't think it's open any more. I went there a couple of times while I was at uni (also rode Spider and Abby, although Humbug was my favourite. She was a nutty little Sec D and they would only allow people they had already seen ride other horses ride her as she was quite naughty, would rear when excited i.e. before cantering and she knew exactly where she was going to canter. I thought she was great fun.

I then saw them on a local Watchdog type programme and they were being accused of animal cruelty (something to do with the dog part of the business not the horses.) They sold up after that and although the new owners carried on under new management for a while I don't think they're still in business. Would love to be proved wrong though!

Googled it and it seems to be an outdoor pursuits centre now. It mentions horse riding as an activity but doesn't have any photos of horses, stables or people riding so it looks like the horses have gone although the centre's still there.

I went on holiday to L & A four times in my teens. Its still my "happy place" in my head. I was gutted when it became the Outdoor Centre as I always hoped to go back one day. I did send the new owners a rather disapproving

e-mail.

I liked Humbug, Poppy, Maxwell and my absolute favorite was Cameo and I tried getting my poor parents to buy her for me. The rides were pretty crazy for a trekking centre, if they hadn't sold up H & S would probably have finished them off by now anyway.

afaik (worked a few months there as groom back in 2002)L & A changed hands again.
the horse riding section has closed down the main yard stables and grooms accomodation and tack room have all been converted in to more holiday accomodation - Don't know about the newer block of stables/ run in stables /kennels they may have a small livery stables along side the holiday centre with a small petting farm .

I don't know what happened to the horses i'm guessing they were sold off - fav's were Spot (appy cob) /fantasy (elderly chest mare) Humphrey (hw cob) and a few of the ponies. Duchess was there when I was there used to use her to bring in the herd of horses in loose down the lane form the cross country field bareback on her.

yup If thinking of the same bay big affectionate sop he goes great in a light contact/long rein and would get flighty on a shorted contact - was always up for a good breeze out, and had a fantastic pop in him. was stabled next to a bay mare with white blaze called jessie with same sort of temperment. Usually was the Trek leaders (Alaine or Sarah) who rode those two unless you were a 'regular experienced' rider in which case they'd seen you ride lots and would you get them as part of the trek and the RL would ride one of the newer horses prior to them being used for clients.

Lol I remember humbug, used to rear constantly every time you stood still lol! I also loved Cameo, don't think she quite got the concept of walk as she just trotted and cantered everwhere sideways

Was great fun at the time, shame its closed down. I always hoped to go back some day

We should have a reminiscent thread with pics of the horses

We took our horses for a holiday there many years ago.....good times

Went off exploring round the forest on our own and got very lost.

My friend's mum bought one of the horses from there - Oscar, I think his name was. He was a very sweet native x TB type, a bit nice but dim, bless him.

LOL!! I remember starting riding at L & A! Never been riding before out on a 2 hour trek, from walk to trot (sitting-OUCH) then a canterand full out gallop!
On a Sunday at 1PM a trek, whilst my parents used to have to hang around waiting for us to get back..I used to ride 'Clover'
Then home for Sunday dinner!
There aren't any horses there now, only an outdoor pursuits centre, wow, those were the days eh? What a blast from the past!
