L-shaped block with four 12x12 stables - weird but possible?!

Evening!

Am wondering if anyone has built an L-shaped stable block with 4 12x12 stables? Obviously, the usual set-up would be 3 12x12 stables with a corner box. However, our planning department helpfully limits pp to 4 small boxes & we want to do an L-shape i.e. 2 boxes on 1 side & 2 on the other . This means the bit where the corner box would be will effectively be an empty square from behind – which we plan to use for storage etc.

Has anyone else built a block like this? Obviously would make much more sense to have a corner box but planners say they wouldn’t give permission for 3 regular stables & an apparently “unnecessary” bigger one so just trying to make the best of a bad job here :) Just wondering if it’s physically doable re. the roof etc.

Thanks all!

Anything is doable. Speak to whoever will be constructing the stables. Seems like you have a very silly planning dept! Thought ours was bad.

ps, I would be tempted to have two blocks of two stables with a tiny gap between so you have a walkway to the back.

Hi guys,

Thanks very much for your suggestions - hadn't thought of either of those. Agreed Honey08 but planning dept puts out a booklet of guidelines as to what structures would be allowed & during informal meeting they said I would be v unlikely to get anything beyond that. From looking at other properties in the area, other people have clearly built built bigger set-ups but they're already questioning the amount of land I have for the number of horses (i.e. not enough & too many!) so don't want to do anything that might complicate our position further.

Thanks both for your suggestions - am drawing plans on graph paper to see how I can make it work, it's just like being back in primary school!
