Do calmers containing L-Tryptophan really work?

I see many inconclusive tests when I look it up.

Anyone have any experinece ( good or bad) with calmers containing L-Tryptophan?

I used Topspec Calmer for a while, which I think contains it, and it was brilliant. A bit too strong if anything!

I've never had any luck with Magnesium calmers but always got on ok with those containing tryptophan.

Have used one in past with great success has worked on 2/3 horse used on but not the nutty pony.We put mare on it without telling daughter so could see if it worked.Daughter said mare was rearing less (used to when stressed/scared)
I used Good as Gold, girl at yard used Carl Hester one with good effect.
ETA you can get as daily feed or paste

i found the ones that had L-Tryptophan in worked well. ones without it were useless. i found Top spec the best

I used it as a daily supplement ,don't use it now(touch wood).
Someone can correct me if am wrong as have a terrible memory tryptophan is ammino acid which aids production of seratonin(happy stuff).
It has been used as an anti depressant for humans in past

Topspec calmer is a daily calmer, so they have it every day in their feeds. You start off with a loading dose then reduce down to the daily maintenance dose.

I have a feeling Equine America So-Kalm instant calmer paste is L-tryptophan and that's an instant paste, well takes about 3 hours to work. Sent my pony to sleep...went to do dressage and he could only just about rouse himself to do the tests!
