Noticed yesterday that my beloved 5 yr old lab has a one very swollen front nipple. She is spayed and in good health so am supecting a cyst rather than anything more sinister.
Has anyone had a similar problem/advice?
I was going to leave it a couple of days but if the swelling has not reduced will take her to the vets then.
Thanks

I would take her straight to the bets tomorrow TBH. My vet has always advised if I find lumps near the mammary glands to take mine straight in (my schnauzer is prone to fatty lumps which he is not worried about)

My cocker started with a swollen nipple just before christmas.

We took her to the vet and he diagnosed mastitis and I had to evacuate (milk) the nipple daily to reduce the fluid plus she was on a/b's. The nipple didnt diminish and the tissue in the breast started to get lumpy so we went back to the vets again for more a/b's.

Last month she was at the vet a third time and they drew off some fluid from the lump. The results from the lab came back as suspected cancer so she went in for an op.

They removed 2 nipples, two large lumps in the breast plus all the lymph gland on one side. Histopathology showed the lumps to be a very serious and invasive tumour but, fingers crossed, it looks as though the surrounding tissues are free from spread.

Dont wait too long before you take your bitch in and if you find anything remotely lumpy get back there asap.

Cocker is now fully recovered from surgery and happy to display her very dramatic scar to all and sundry!

I wouldnt risk a lump on the nipple either. It may be nothing but it might need removing. Best to find out this week. But agree that I would watch it for a few days first.

Thanks for the advice. Took her to the vets last night and they are treating it initially as an infection, with a course of antibiotics. They don't think it is cancerous as the lump is 'fluidy' rather than hard, but if it has not reduced within a week they are going to remove it to be on the safe side.
