...cos I want to show him off, and everyone loves a puppy!

Willow came home yesterday at 8.3 days. Toilet training off to a good start, as is 'sit'. Bracken is not over-the-moon impressed with him but they are enjoying each other's company and I am 100% certain he'll mellow - once he realises Wills is just a very small dog!

He is definitely a black lab now, we hoped he might be brown but he has darkened very quickly.

Think that's just the light in the photos, next to Bracken in real life they're pretty much exactly the same colour :( and you can't tell him apart from the rest of his litter now and they are definitely, definitely black. I'll try to get a photo in the daylight later.

Bit gutting as wanted a chocolate one! But I really don't care - happy, healthy puppy will do fine :)

Thanks.x

That last picture is very cute. :) I did think on your earlier photos he was going to be black as all the chocolate pups I have seen have been obviously chocolate from a very early age. However as ct says he does look on these recent pics as if he has a chocolate tinge to his coat, which is strange. He looks quite tall, how old is he?

He's 8 weeks and 4 days today. He's a little heavier than Bracken was at this age, but I think he'll be finer than Boo - perhaps taller but not as chunky. Same mum, different dad. X

As you say, the most important thing is that he is a healthy pup, but I would have thought the breeder should have been able to tell you pretty early on what colour he would be. He does look taller and finer than some pups I have seen, it'll be interesting for you to watch them grow and see their differences as they are half brothers.:)

Gorgeous pics, Cedars! Please feel free to post hundreds more... I have such Labrador puppy cravings at the moment, I can't tell you!!

I love the pic of him sitting on the other one. :)

Breeder is completely stumped! She is extremely experienced, currently has *counts* 6 dogs over 4 generations in her house - she only ever breeds when she wants another to work. But she's never seen a colour change/uncertainty like it - even the vet was completely stumped! Particularly as we know both mum and dad's family trees, absolutely completely, 10 gens back on mum's side and either 6 or 7 on dad's. Most odd!

I guess it would have been weird for him to be brown as they are very definitely working dogs - on both sides - and I think brown is unusual...? I think maybe he'll always just be black with a slightly brown tinge in the light.

He's gorgeous , my old boy won't be with me long now your pictures made me sad and happy as I know what's coming but also know there be a pup to come after it .
