Can anyone give me some advice please
I visited a friend of a friend recently.
She has a labradoodle dad and Yorkshire terrier mum. They got up to frolicking when their owners were out and Yorkie had pups.
They are lovely little babies.
I really would love to have one but worried of the problems it may have due to the mix.
They're £500 each. Not that the money matters for a lovely companion but just wondering of others opinion.
Thanks in advance

That sounds like a very odd mix. Essentially they are mongrels ( as are labradoodles). I assume dad wasnt huge if mum delivered the pups OK. They could have any or no health issues like any mongrel.
I have had several mongrels who have been fine. I currently have a ??? Yorkie x JRT or possibly he may be an Australian Terrier. He was a stray from abroad and is a walking vet bill. My other mongrels were fine. My pedigree JRT from health tested parents is 6 and has been fine.
If you like the pup and like terriers then go for it. Poodles and Yorkies can be yappy and terrier like in temperament. Personally I love a terrier but that's just me. Just be aware they may or may not shed depending on genetics.

Temperament, temperament, temperament all the way. They could be as nice as pie or vicious depending on parents and tbh grandparents. I'd be wanting to be spending time with them and their parents to suss it out. In any case £500 , I think that's taking the p#££. It's an accidental mating producing questionable mongrels, owner should count her lucky stars if she can find homes for all at all.

As a child we had a Yorkie/Poodle, she had the sliver colour of Yorki and the soft curls like a poodle.Once a year she would lie of the carpet while by dad clipped her with the scissors. I was about ten when we got her and she went everywhere with us. She was in her teens and I was married when she died.

I do not particularly like papered KC dogs, the whole line breeding which is basically inbreeding is basically what causes most of the problems, so I would always if possible get a X bred, my present one is Labdoodle who is a joy and was bought from a traveller family, before that I had a Rottie X I rehomed who was like Nana out of Peter Pan. Yes temperament is a big thing, but how the puppy is trained and looked after IMO is more important. You can make the most calm dog anxious and unhappy if you do not care for it properly, just like you can screw up horses. What ever puppy you get just make sure you have time and commitment to train it properly.
I all my mixed breed dogs I have never had a nasty one, some have been rehomed at about a year and I have never known their breeding.
The only ones I would not have again are lurchers because they are selfish a holes with a complete lack of respect, very sly,and if they were human they would be the boyfriend you hope your daughter avoids.

Thank you. They're advertised for £600 now. Well we will see. He is a lovely boy and parents are lovely too🙄

I would like to protest about lurchers , they are not as you say, they are very loving and toe the line EXCEPT when there is something to chase. 😂🤣😂

There’s so many sweeping unproven statements there…

May be unproven, but I have owned various mixed breed mutts for over forty years, and health and temperament wise they have never been a problem. No long term health issues, no corrective operations and even the large dogs had long lives. Most have been re-homed from rescue organisations so you just get handed a dog with no previous history or known breeding.
I suppose the worst one has been my daughters miss sold dachshund, which at a year old was not house trained and obviously been bred for his colour and then used as a stud dog during covid. He had problems with separation anxiety, but he is what I would call a normal dog now, and is not yappy which seems to be the thing that put people off dachshunds. There was nothing wrong with the dogs basic temperament, it had just been treated as a commodity and didn't even know its name or understand that the fridge is a box of delights. He now knows when its steak night.
Have I been lucky, I may have been, but the success rate over 45yrs is 100%.

So you’ve had various mutts and no pedigrees? I know this is a wormhole debate but I’m looking here, in front of me, at 6 pedigree dogs and not a temperament issue or health problem between them. And that’s just the current crop.
I’ve no problem with you having your opinion, maybe just don’t spout it as gospel.

Just for context.

As you know the parents, look at their temperaments to get an idea what the puppy could turn out like. Basically they are mongrels and could turn out to be completely different . Sounds a very odd mix and a lot of money to me
Absolutely adorable well behaved playful darlings ❤️ but my pup has teeth issues 'misaligned' growing upward in gum! It looks ok but he said vet recommended removal. Said I'd claim on my insurance and would knock price down to 500.
Its already on record insurance not an option. Approx 1k for extraction. Im gutted. 😞
