My brother will soon be looking for a new dog. His last dog came from a rescue centre is Brighton - he was a yellow lab, who sadly had to be PTS just after new year due to old age (he was nearly 15!!)

My brother loves labs, and wants another one (just wants to let the dust settle a bit first). The thing is, all the 'big' rescue centres local to him just seem to have GSD and staffie type dogs. He doesn't mind a lab or a lab x but that type of dog. He tried to the lab rescue people, but they wont even consider him because he works full time. His partner however does not (they live together, in their own house, which backs onto 100 acres of woodland and fields) but apparently this isn't good enough as there is a chance the dog will be left alone if he is working and she wants to go out???

So, my question is, does anyone know of some perhaps smaller rescue centres, or places that my brother could start looking. He wants a youngish dog (preferably under 4yo) but doesn't really want a puppy.

my sisters neighbours do, she quite often has some to stay the night if they have to many! i tried calling her for the number but friday afternoons she's at dog training, some of her partners family have got dogs from them and looking for another so they must be alright! ill send a message tonight when i can get the number, she's in heathfield east sussex.

What do they think happens when you have a dog - that you just become a hermit and never leave the house again, ever?
