Recently I've noticed that I get very tense when jumping, and this causes me to get unseated slightly when we land. I used to be able to jump two feet easily when I was 11 or 12, but it seems that now I can't jump more then a foot smoothly? I've only ever fallen off once, and that was during jumping, but I improved after that, and haven't had anything since to knock my confidence...

So can you give me any advice? It looks like I won't be able to jump until I get my own horse, due to Jayjay being unfit, and my sister being over-posessive

I suppose it could just be the horse I rode at the RS? He was a good, confident and safe jumper, but did cat type jumps, which weren't comfy...

I just don't know! Any advice at all would be much loved!

i have exactly the same problem. unfortunately, the tensing only makes it worse as yoor horse will feel this and react in a similar fashion. yoo just have to have ultimate faith in yoorself and the horse yoor riding. the two of yoo CAN and WILL get over the fence. the best tip i have is to find an instructor who will get to know yoo and the horse and help yoo gain confidence and enjoy the jumping rather then doing it for the heck of it. the stars are yoor limit girl!

Hi, probably its because he is cat leaping as this is very hard to sit well to. I have found that the more jumping you do under good supervision, the more confident you become. Gridwork helps too as you know that the stride is good, so you just have to ride through it.
Last year, I was walking a course of 90cm, British Novice, after just coming back into it and I remember thinking ,
"Oh, this looks big!"
But today I`ve been jumping a 1.04 spread into a 1.22m vertical. I know that the sizes seem odd but the measurements are printed onto the wing things with 6inch gaps! and I thought the 1m jumps looked small. Didn`t think I`d say that, but it is only through recent gridwork and regular jumping. I say regular, but I have been about 4 times since Christmas, but it helps. It will come with practice.

I agree have some lessons you do sit deep into your seat and sit UP !! before you meet the jump then just bend over the jump if you bend before the jump your seat is hopeless and if anything happens your off start with little jumps as big jumps some horses round so high a bit like the sounds of your boy, good luck. PS you might be doing this already so not telling you how to suck eggs !!!
