I seem to have unfortunately lost my long-term "share" horse (well, we had a mutual agreement that I rode and did stable chores a couple of times a week to give owner a day off). He went lame and has moved to pastures new to be a happy hack. So I'm looking for something (sane) around my area (live in Salisbury) or easy to travel to, to hack / school two to three times a week.

Where on earth are they all?! I've noticed a few posts on here in the past asking where the heck all the sharers are, but I'm struggling the other way round. Is it actually a "good" time of year to be looking? Or do all the owners suddenly decide they've got enough time to do it themselves now the clocks are almost about to change and spring is coming?

And yes, I've scoured NFED :p

Shaftesbury is rather much too far for me, unfortunately - I'd be spending more time and money travelling than anything else!

I'm having the same issues...there seem to be loads of posts on here with people looking for sharers but i can't find one in my area...Maybe nobody in Cheshire wants to share the costs of their horses?

I've just sold my horse because i can't afford the full costs of owning due to my job changing. Having a 2 year old, i didn't have the option of sharing...not many people wanted to help towards a horse they couldn't ride?!!?

lol, anyway. I'm in the other situation of, I'm quite happy not to ride unless the horse was a heavyweight, 100% safe plod, and finding one that someone wants to share are like finding a needle in a haystack so I've even resided myself to offering my services helping out around the yard, at shows etc but I've had hardly any interest in any of my adverts offering myself out. The 3 people who have responded, one lives over 45 miles away, the second wanted £145 a month (that is more that i was paying for my own horse on DIY and did everything myself) and the other also wanted me to look after her kids?!!? I'm not a nanny!!!

Anyway, I'm off to look for a sharer :) Happy hunting everyone.

i want somebody to share my horse but im in cumbria :(. i do have one lass that rides her one day a week but i walk/bike/run with her on hacks and have to pick her up. i want someone i can just let get on with it one or two days a week to help me out, with having my youngsters in another place.

Argh i know exactly how you feel! I'm in the exact same situation :(

i am a sharer, and have been for the past couple years :D ive had 4 long ish loans in that time (all at the same yard though) so we are around! keep looking :)

I'll keep an eye out, I am down at my old yard (feels funny saying that) on sunday to do mucking out and ride one horse out whilst they are off to aldon, someone there might know of something.

This is coming from me - I own a horse but have a sharer for him. It took me 3 tries and over a year to find someone who suited me AND my horse.
I would be totally lost without her and just hope she doesn't go and buy her own (That sounds horrible doesn't it !!) She really is a god send.

There ARE people out there looking for loaners (That sounds weird too), you just have to find the right horse !

Thanks for the encouragement everyone, looks like I'll just have to be patient and keep looking for as long as it takes! I am in the fortunate position of having my mum's horse to hack out, but I have to be careful with her due to an old tendon injury so it's really not the same.

Fingers crossed there's someone out there!

I'm in Swindon and not had much luck with a sharer....though in all fairness I'm not desperate for one. I just have a few adverts up just in case there is anyone wanting one. I can spare him for a few days :)

I am only 25 mins from you in Warminster so shall also keep an eye out! It took me ages to find the right sharer for my mare also... there seemed to be a lack of them!

what about advertising in the local shops (my village, your parents village etc) as well as in the tack shop and scats?

i have just recently moved to the Telford area and i have been round horses all my life but since i have moved away from home i am trying to save the money to buy my own horse but in the meantime i would really like to start again with a share/loan.

Does anyone know any good places or where i should start my search around Telford?

Thanks

Katie

I've had quite a lot of people interested in sharing my gelding that naps so the sharers are about, just not the reliable horses.

It will pick up at the end of the month - beginning of Easter.

Sorry to hear about your past loan horse. I hope he enjoys his new life.

I advertised for a part sharer for my horse last year on NFED for 6 months and got virtually no interest(1 person who decided he wasn't suitable) I did want money but was offering a full part share including the option to compete.

I will be advertising again this year. By the way I'm on the waterside area of the New Forest, but I suspect that is too far for you!

Burtie - unfortunately I think it might be too far, though it sounds like a great opportunity for someone if you're willing to let them have everything like that, and compete!

I shall be posting adverts in local shops and on NFED in the next few weeks, I think. :)

Silmarillion - I know how you feel. I'd love to get another share but can't seem to see anything where I am in Milton Keynes. Hope you find something very soon!

<thanks for the reminder>
I ought to be advertising for a sharer/helper as now summer is on its way, I have lots less time for my bigger fuzzy for hacking.
So, if anyone wants free weekday riding - and a very long 4 day weekend at least once a month, drop me a message.
In the meantime I must find a pen & notepaper for an advert for the tackshops locally.........

I searched for over a year for a share horse in Cumbria! Too bad I live in Leeds now or I would have PMd you!

I've been trying to find someone to share my pony since last November, no such luck though. It seems to be very hard to find someone who would "suit" your horse so to speak, I'm hoping it might change come spring/summer but who knows!
I hope you find something really nice :D

It might be your area - I have been looking for a sharer for Ed for some time now, as was the gentleman next door with an 18hh hunter, with no luck :)
