We are lucky enough to have tickets for the 3 day event finals and the showjumping finals.... we are travelling by coach for the 3 day event but have to go to the Olympic Park as there are no coaches going to Greenwich! We dont know London and there seems to be a distinct lack of information about getting to Greenwich from the Olympic Park or anywhere else for that matter. Anyone else experiencing problems? There is park & ride for the cross country day only!

Only thing to note is that north greenwich tube station on the jubilee line is not actually that close to the park, you'd probably need to get a bus from there to the park or it'll be about 30min walk. Better bet would be to get the DLR to Greenwich station or Cutty Sark from the park. I would also check to see if they will be doing special bus route to take you from one place to the other.

bbcrystal,I agree wholeheartedly that Greenwich is poorly served transportwise except for xc day,its all very well if you are used to travelling in London unlike me,but the thought worries me lots.

It's very easy to get the DLR from Stratford to North Greenwich, and then walk to the park (5 mins through the centre Greenwich) from there. Or you can try the new cable car running over the Thames from the Olympic Park to the O2, and take a short bus ride from there. Pm me if you want to know anything else, I live there :)

You don't want north greenwich for the park you are better off getting the overland train fron cannon street or London bridge to maze hill as that overland station is right at the bottom of the park and then from station it is only a 5 min walk max to the bottom enterance to the park. North Greenwich is only good for the dome or O2 arena as its now called as its in the middle of nowhere so useless unless you want the arena really. I work in London and travel through maze hill every day to and from work on the train but will be avoiding the area as much as possible during the olympics lol

Like you say... if you aren't used to London transport its a bit of a problem particularly when people are saying tube and the 2012 website says there is no tube to Greenwich!! Thanks for your support,

I have not really looked at where the event is in greenwich park but it is not that huge used to live in Blackheath, this is at the top of the park, and is a two minute walk to the top end of park.

I would look at a map of the park and maybe blackheath station would be a good bet.Cutty sark as someone else mentioned is the other end so either could only be a walk of a few minutes, even on a normal day going in the car in that area is a nightmare it is right next to the blackwall tunnel and on route the A2 to the dartford crossing lakeside and thurrock etc. Also just down road from the city.

It is a very busy area and tube will be your best option.

Greenwich has lots of transportation options:
1) DLR - use Greenwich station as Cutty Sark will be closed during the Olympics as its not big enough to deal with large numbers of people.
2) Mainland train - again Greenwich station (same place as the DLR), you can get direct trains from London Bridge, Cannon Street and sometimes Waterloo East and Charing Cross. Trains from any of these stations take at max just over 15 mins, from London Bridge its 8 mins.

There will be a network of roads that will be closed from Greenwich station to the park to allow people to easily walk from the station to the park (which is at most a 10 mins stroll).

3) Jubilee line on the tube - North Greenwich station. Could be an option, but be warned this is more like a 25-30min walk.
4) Boat - get the Thames Clipper to Greenwich Pier and you're a 5 min walk to the park.

Entrance to the park was from the bottom (next to the maritime museum) for the test event and I imagine the same will be true for the games, so you want to head for the north side of the park (bit closest to the Thames) as this will be where you enter.

I hope that helps :)

Just got my ticket for showjumping,I have bought a coach ticket from Bristol to' Olympic Park All Venues' but have no idea where the coach drops off and easiest way to get to Greenwich from there, any help appreciated

If your coach is going to the olympic park you can walk from there to Stratford and then get the Docklands Light Railway to Greenwich. Don't go on the jubilee line to North Greenwich it's quite a hike/awkward walk from there. Your tickets should include a travelcard which will be valid on the DLR from Stratford to Greeenwich.

I imagine you'll end up at the Olympic site in Stratford - from there best bet is to get the DLR to Greenwich (on a normal day takes 20 mins). Should be pretty easy :)

Its a pretty non stressful journey from the Olympic park. Jump on the DLR at Stratford to Cutty Sark, Greenwich. Easy peasey. Luckily for me i'm only down the road :-)

Does anyone know if the free Rail travel ticket you get with the olympic ticket covers tube travel, I think it says something like sectors 1-9??

we have tickets for the jumping final and grand prix dressage final. they are two days apart

we thought we would spend 4 days in london but nearly every hotel is 1500 or more for a twin room

also a single ticket to london is £80 so thats £320 for transport and £1500 for hotel and £400 for tickets

£2220 for 4 days and 6 hours of entertainment. and they say that the olympics arnt for the rich.

we are staying with a friend of a friend as otherwise we couldnt go. and we can forget shopping.
