LETHAL ACRODERMATITIS - A lethal syndrome characterized clinically by retarded growth, progressive Acrodermatitis, chronic pyoderma and paronychia, diarrhoea, pneumonia, and abnormal behaviour. Jezyk et al, JAVMA 1986

I just went to look at the site and those dogs are gorgeous.....just what in the name of Cod does the jargon mean in laymans terms please???
I have to admit I didn't read on as the title put me off!

its basically a cross between Downs Syndrome & Autism, some are more Downs and some are more Autistic, that's the best way to describe it, but the site is worth a read its really not all doom & gloom :)

I had never heard of this condition before and have just been reading about it on the link, sounds horrible for the dog and owner:(

Are these pups in pain?

I am really sorry if this offends but does anyone really think anyone would keep a puppy, let it live in the home as a pet (a quirky pet but hey ho) take it out to fun days, put it's pictures on a forum and so on if it was suffering in any way, shape or form, how cruel would that make that person??

No, they are not suffering nor are they in pain, they have condition which is much the same as downs/autism, yes skin can be a problem but it is a manageable problem. Please read all of the LAD website to educate yourself, as stated above its NOT about doom & gloom, its about having a condition and dealing with it!

No offence taken and thanks for the clarification:)

Unfortunately though some people would post pics and take them to fun days even when the animal is in pain (physical and mental). How many times have you seen animals kept alive when they are more than ready to meet their maker because human "kindness" blinds them to the reality of the situation.

That is really interesting, thank you for posting it. I have always loved bulllies, friend had a white bitch who was an absolute loony, used to do a wall of death round the kitchen work tops.:D

Absolutely, and that is dispicable;the LAD puppies I have had at some point,be it 18 months or 4 years just decide they are "tired",and their huge love of life just evaporates..that is the time we let them go.
They do relish life, warmth ,cuddles ..they will never catch a rabbit ("rabbit?????Duh?") but are in no pain whatsoever with the right meds.

When Lucy came along she was in a terrible state with multiple issues, and at the time I gave myself one month to make a real difference in her condition. The spark to live was very strong in her,she has come good to a degree I would have never hoped for.I think she is a very gutsy and strong willed little person ,which is why she is a survivor. Many zincies I have seen would never have survived a drenched weekend on a council tip, unable to walk , half her proper bodyweight and rolled up in wire netting.Pure grit has got her through,so I feel mankind owes her quite a bit really.

How lovely to hear that there are people out there happy to help the vulnerable. Most people would overlook dogs with special needs.

I'd never heard of this in bullies even though mum had one. Thanks for posting.
