Ladies hunting whip - length?

I would like to get a nice hunting whip - I am an adult (sort of - 23 but I feel 12!).

Dad has said he will look to get me one for Christmas (we can't hunt til after Christmas as pony has had 5 months off)

My question is - what length should the lash be - and as I ride ponies (13.1h-14.2h) can I have a shorter lash!?

Yes, of course you can have a shorter lash. I have found from bitter experience (2 smashed whips) never to have a lash and thong long enough for your horse to stand on.

Not sure of correct lenght but my thong is 50 inches, I have hunted with a lady's whip and my Grandad's Champion and Wilton.
