I am mildly surprised that a thread has not been started concerning the murder of Pennie Davies at Beaulieu in the New Forest.

This lady was, according to all reports feeding her ponies and then murdered by stabbing and three people have been arrested in connection with the murder, although as yet they do not appear to have been charged.

One wonders what could possibly motivate somebody to stab to death a lady 'doing' her horses in a field. Seemingly in broad daylight. There is something very unusual about this matter.

As folk keeping horses who post on this board, many in exactly similar circumstances, we should all express our sympathy to Pennie's family and five children.

Also to be mindful of security.

J-m, the subject has been covered, Soapbox from memory. I agree, it's a distressing story and would have one wondering at the make-up of the perpetrator. Multiple stab wounds would imply an intent to kill, wouldn't it?

Considering the question of two who've been charged with assisting an offender, it does raise the question of how we face the prospect of 'turning in' a loved one. There are those mothers who've done it, and to their credit, but stepping over the line whereby we protect those closest to us, NO MATTER what, by considering that we have a greater responsibility, really can't be easy.

How often have I told the world that my family comes first, but now thinking about it, they don't, do they? We have a greater responsibility.

What a dreadful story this is; five children who will never see their mother again. How can we expect anyone to rest in peace, when they've left this world in such a manner. Should there be life after death, we can only hope that the poor lady will find peace, eventually.

Dwelling on such matters benefits few of us.

Alec.

I think it does highlight the degree of risk that is posed by looking after one's horses and ponies away from one's home.

Having said that Beaulieu is hardly remote.

No doubt the facts will emerge and presumably these people will be charged. I would imagine the Police are waiting to consult the Crown Prosecution Service who probably do not work on weekends.

I am curious about your comment "it does raise the question of how we face the prospect of 'turning in' a loved one".

Presumably you have seen a report which sheds more light on this matter?

I've not seen any report. It was a point raised which we need to answer for ourselves, rhetorical, if you like. It's a question which I've never been asked, and hopefully never will.

Alec.
