So I have bred a few foals over the years and this one was my 1st by an ID Stallion, I have never known such a 'grown up' baby...............

Weaned at under 5 months as growing too quickly ( advised by vet ) and she did not even call to mum when she was loaded up and taken away, or trot - just nothing and carried on eating.

When she got an abscess she allowed me to clean, poultice etc in the field with no help, when she had to go to a livery yard due to the abscess and rain scald not clearing up she loaded into trailer within 20 mins - never been in a trailer and at that time had not really been lead or left her field.

She basically does anything you want her too, even on 2 weeks box rest after never been in a stable she just accepted it and when she could go back out she just walked out calmly and a little canter in field and that's it.

Large plastic bags blowing in the wind, whilst other liveries are spooking and snorting she just went up to it and actually tried to walk over it, she does not even care about traffic including tractors.

So today lovely fresh snow I thought I might get some nice piccies of her playing in the snow - nope she just had a slow plod across the field!!

She is officially the most boring foal I have ever owned ( only joking - I love her to bits ).......................does anyone else own a laid back foal and does anyone think this behaviour will continue, will she be too laid back to do some showing next year - how will I find some sparkle?

I've got one of these, never known one so quiet!! Leads perfectly, almost have to drag him along, no excitement, boring!!

My foal born June 2010 was like that right through to this winter she is now monster horse. She was shown last year and was very laid back but it did not stop her winning so enjoy it while you can!!

I have one of these too! Halter trained with no issues (just sometimes he stands and stares like 'do I have to move...?) picks up his feet perfect everytime, loads like an angel, ties up perfect, always lets me catch him... I too thought today I might get some nice shots of him and his buddy in the snow... Nope!! I had to run around with him to get a trot, and when I tried clapping, jumping around to get him to do something... He rolled!! :p The only thing he doesn't really like is sweeping with the broom!

Hes a shetland colt... His brother is a total wuss, flinches if you cough, can be a b*gger to catch occasionally, but to be fair he is pretty perfect for a foal too. Ties up, picks out feet etc.

I wouldn't mind if they stayed quiet though, they are my first baby babies!!

ETA - I don't think yours or mine or any other quiet foal will be too laid back to show, should be nice to have something sensible to take on first outings!

I have a really peaceful RID x Irish Vanner filly that I bred. She is 18 months now and very sensible.

She and her carthorse boyfriend, who is 17 months old, went out in the snow this morning. They had been in for 48 hours because the yard was icy and I had not had the time to clear it, but with a foot of snow it was safe enough for them.

She tiptoed across the snow, wandered off and sat in it for a while. Her boyfriend on the other hand, was beside himself with excitement and the walk across the yard resembled flying a kite with hairy legs. Let go, he set off like a rocket. She did follow him but he soon came to grief whilst doing a handbrake turn, resulting in him skidding on his side straight past her. She just side stepped him and trotted back to me, asking to come in.

Long may it last as far as I am concerned, the quieter the better for me in my old age.

I have one, total saint as a foal and still is rising 5. Could load her myself as a yearling on her own into a trailer, leave her untied and pop round the back to put the bar up. She has had her moments though, she broke my hand when I was backing her!!

I have one too. Shes ID xwb and just unbelievably chilled. She had a bath before she went to the BEF, and didnt flinch, I was amazed. Have to drag her out of the stable, she just truddles along like a dog. Always brill for the farrier. The other horses love her too. When the vet did the microchip, again didnt bother.

Her older brother ( who is now 4 and the boss of all the others) just lets he get away with everything. He lets her have his hay, always let her in first at the gate.

But, when she feels like it, crikey she loves to gallop.

Shes chestnut, so im waiting for the day she changes.......

Im sure when you take you baby to a first show, she will find it exciting :D

laid back!! i actually told the vet i think foaly smokes dope when we aint looking!

first time travel, 1 hr travelling time, took out 2year old, left foaly in trailer (at a show) . put 2 year old back in and took foaly out into a busy car park. straight into ring! never put a foot wrong!
he is very rarely with his mum, actually have to shout him in when the others are already at their doors. no headcollar for vets taking temp, seriously he is one laid back dude and still entire, dreading getting his bits cut off!
