What a year last sept my horse did his curb ligament made a total recovery then bruised his cannon bone and went on to tear a tendon .Finally had the all clear last month started schooling again after 8 to 12 weeks building up fitness had a great lesson and hes now lame again.I found a overreach injury but I think hes done his tendon again doesnt look lame on overreach leg ,although I cant find any heat or swelling in either.Hes my first horse and only 6 a ex racer so we have worked really hard reschooling and calming him down .I cant believe hes lame again having the vet out again on friday but feeling really low.Even my vet is feeling sorry for me cant believe my bad luck.Just need to have a moan and get it of my chest and really cant afford any more vet bills.

Oh thats a shame. But hopefully its not the tendon again. If it is niggling, once sound and with vets go ahead go back to walking, lots and lots. If it is the tendon, I would actually walk for 12 weeks. Then slowly introduce small stretches of trot. The slower you take it the less chance of more damage. I would do no schooling on circles or in deep surfaces, just lots of gentle hacking. And try to keep him away from too much mud- difficult I know!

Oh you poor thing, I can sympathise, my horse has been lame for most of the last 3 months, nothing drastic like yours but still only able to be walked. It is so frustrating isn't it? Especially when you think they are finally sound and then they go and do something else.

Some horses just seem to be injury prone; my first horse has been sound for the last 10 years except for one foot abscess. If only they could all be like him. OH's horse on the other hand, has been lame more than he's been sound.

Its such a pain. My pony has been lame since last May! Suspensory ligament; he was operated on beginning of Nov and, although still slightly lame ( he's on one sachet of Danilon a day) i have only just started to walk him for 10 mins a day, building up to 30 minutes in 6 weeks. Injuries take a long time to heal. Butterbean, that sounds like ours, mine has spent 1 year out of 4 lame, and my daughters pony has never been lame/or anything in 6 years!

Its a real pain especially when you have the time to excercise them 6 days a week and other people struggle for time and they have sound horses. To make matters worse the sept I referred to was previous year so these injuries have been ongoing for year and half .Fingers crossed for tommorrow when vet comes hope its something trivial or just a niggle because I cant find anything!!!!!!!!

Fingers crossed for you with the vet, two of ours are both being seen by the vet tomorrow too, they are not improving at all.
It is so hard trying to keep your spirits up when you want to be out and about with them and have yet another month of resting or walking to look forward too.

Ive got my fingers crossed too,the hair has just fallen out at the back of his legs where his overreach boots go and I have found scabs that I originally thought were a overreach injury from turnout.I am sure looking at them tonight that his boots have caused the injury .I think the boots I used to protect him have actually caused the problem.Ill pop him on lunge before vet comes to see if hes still lame if he is Ill get his tendon checked again but there is still no heat or inflammation perhaps after my bad year I am being paranoid.Hope all goes well with your horses.

How did you get on today with the vet hope your horses are improving.
Ive just had some more bad news the leg that is causing the real problem is the hind.I have to take him in for xrays and nerve blocks. There is some calcium build up around the hock the vet is talking about fusing hocks or surgery. The long term prognosis isnt to good.He will be ok for light hacking but not to jump or do dressage.Cant believe it he is only 6 .I bought him to bring on for cross country in the hope that my daughter would be able to do pony club and event later on.The vet said something about working him really hard on bute to make bones fuse but that sounds really harsh. Will go for xrays and hope for better news finding it really difficult to be optimistic.

Hi, have replied to your post above about spavins as OH's horse has a spavin & it looks like the other hock is going now too. However we went down the bute/work route the first time and it really did help so we are hoping it will work again.
Pidge on here has been through the spavin problems last year and her horse is now completely sound so there is definitely life after spavins but depends on each horse I suppose.

Was less conclusive with my horse, I thought he had injured his left hock or back (actually I thought it might be a spavin starting, I must have them on the brain at the moment) but vet thinks something wrong with right stifle.
Am getting referred to Leahurst for nerve blocks, x rays etc so at least we are making progress. But he is only 6 as well and was coming on really well in dressage & jumping, was planning to event him this year so feel very gloomy about it all.
