Heya, I have a beagle who will be 10 this christmas, so getting on a bit. Recently, over the past few weeks, I have noticed she is a bit lame when she gets up after lying down for a while. It started out very mild and only for a few steps. In the past week it has gotten to the stage of her being "hopping" lame for a few minutes before coming sound again. My first thoughts were arthritus but this would be a rather sudden onset? Any thoughts?

Sounds like arthritis to me. My horse was mildly stiff for ages and then went very stiff. Vet said it builds without you noticing it and doesn't really come on that quickly. There are treatments that will ease it. Speak to your vet. My old ridgeback is also 10 and she has arthritis. We got her weight down and that helped a lot.

As with horses and people put her on a joint supplement and get her to a mctimoney chiropractor for a good stretch

I will see what I can do. She isn't overweight at all so that shouldn't be an issue

It is just so like my cousins pointer but I didn't think it would start so suddenly, but then again as you said I just probaly didn't notice!
The only other thing I want to add is it is always in one leg, right fore I think.
Did type that out as 'near fore' before I remembered she wasn't a horse. Nothing beats my cousin informing his sister that their dog has another lump on her port shoulder
