Thank you for your suggestions and input. This morning after two doses of "Bute", yesterday evening and this morning a few hours before work, my horse seemed right as rain...Worked a medium workout on the flat but no jumping...

Have decided to stop all medication in a week or so when he returns here and see how he reacts, etc...

rr

Would want a veterinary expert to be looking at him to be honest. And would not work him in any shape or form until that's been done.

All you've done with the bute is mask a problem for which you don't know the cause.

Sorry :o

Yes, but according to the fellow training me(good friend, excellent horseman and rider, etc,) he feels it's probably arthritis or something unimportant. I appreciate and follow this man's advice but, as I said before, we did suggest stopping the bute when he arrives home out in his paddock and see then...

Will go slowly for the moment though...rr

agree with amymay (and what I said yesterday). Really am not one to come on here and say 'you must' etc, but this seems very clear cut. From my understanding you know there is a problem. What you should be doing is stopping work and finding out what the problem is. Not continuing to work - with the use of bute or not. I imagine he does seem right as rain, you have taken the pain that his lameness is causing away. You haven't fixed the problem though.

And that to a degree is fair enough. But no lameness is unimportant - and if you don't know the cause, it's not sensible to self medicate. As a professional your training 'fellow' should recognise that - and not advise you otherwise.......

I'm afraid I have to agree with AmyMay. Monty was on bute as and when needed, however he had DIAGNOSED arthritis and bute prescibed by the vet.

I have to admit to buting Zoom on occasions where she has had a kick/slip in the field however this has only been done where there is slight lameness and wouldn't be a long term (more that 1-2 days) solution. I also would NOT be buting her in order to ride. I think there is an argument for light hacking on bute with veterans etc but I would never use bute in order to work a horse unless under the guidance of a vet.

Damn, damn, damn(was this in" Pygmalion." It's the old, "you don't want to piss off your trainer(and friend,) with contradicting his advice bit"...I am between a rock and a hard spot on this one, eager to get back jumping(after a bad accident,) happy with his improvement, and weary(I am not COMPLETELY stupid,) of working/jumping with an unsound horse(who measures about 1meter 78,) over 17 hands...

I am often an idiot...pray for me or something....rr(and thanks...)
