I'm looking after my friends ex racehorse while she's away on honeymoon (back on wednesday), and his feet are in a terrible condition - very long, underrun heels, and breaking up.
Yesterday evening, he was lame in his near fore - probably 3/10's lame in walk and 4.5/10's lame in trot. There is very slight heat, and a bit of a pulse. His heels on that hoof look sore, and he pulled it away in response to pressure there.
He's on very poor grazing, and his tendons feel fine.
I'm getting the farrier out ASAP, and possibly the vet, depending on what the farrier says.
Could it be the fact that his feet are so long that he's lame? I've never seen a horse in real life with hooves this long!
I hate looking after someone else's horse - something always goes wrong!
