Please don't shoot me down in flames! please please

Last weekend my friend was looking after my horses when she spotted my welsh cob was lame .. not horrifically but noticeable as I was away she brought him when I came back I noticed id made a mistake on when the farrier was due out and he was actually 2weeks over :( im normally pretty organised when it comes to anything like farrier, dentist ect.
farrier came out on Friday morning and my mum was there as I was in college him commented that his feet were quite long so trimmed them back. Came down Friday afternoon and trotted him up and was still lame head bobbing near side front.so I thought I would give him a couple of days to settle encase his foot was taken to short trotted him up again this morning and slight lameness no head bobbing though or if there is its very slight. He is only lame in trot seems fine in walk. so what im I best doing called farrier first to check his shoes or does it seem more like in his leg and should I call the vet?
I haven't given him pain relief as I don't want him then hurtling around the field ... which apparently he was doing on Saturday afternoon. There is no heat down the leg or in the hoof and he doesn't show any pain if I press in places
just need some help and advice on who to get out first.
of if anyone might have an idea of what it could be
