So today I decided to long line my ex-racer in the field. He was perfect at first but as soon as I asked him to jump he protested, reared and cantered off, falling over as he turned. I walked and trotted him after and he seemed absolutely fine so we carried on with our session.
After some more tantrums (rearing/backing up/spinning/cantering off) I stoped him to calm him down, I then asked him to trot out again on the lunge and he appeared very lame on his front right leg all of a sudden.
I then stopped, trotted him up on concrete to be able to judge it, and cold hosed him.
There was no heat in the hoof but was in his lower leg slightly. No swelling from what I could tell.
He was hosed for 20 minuets and is now in the stable overnight to see how he is in the morning.
Obviously the vet will be called in the morning if he’s no better. I’m hoping he’s just pulled something but any idea what it could be?
Am I best to keep him in until a vet comes out or turn him out?
Thanks!
