Lame in trot

my horse has been lame for a month now in trot. Hes been hot tubbed for 2 weeks but farrier says its not an abscess. Any ideas what it could be? Next step is more tests with vet. Vet came out before Xmas said its an abscess but and to hot tub but it seems its not.
 
No swelling, lame on hard and soft ground. I havent lunged him. How much are x-rays? Ill have to see if insurance will pay if its expensive

Our mare was lame in trot, pulled her foot away while grooming/ picking feet out, no heat at all (sometimes is now) vet wouldn't even trot her up as she was obviously lame when he came a week later, bloods taken came back as Arthritis, mare now comfortable on half a bute per day

he was okay when he was on bute given by vet. Hes only 7 though. Vet did ask his age & mentioned arthritis. I thought theres an issue long term wit bute.

Mine has this too, was lame in trot esp on a circle, tiny bit of heat. Tried corticosteroids but i don't think they are working fully, getting back done, on a good supplement (hopefully!) will review with vet and see about bute if she gets worse again.

Out of interest do you ride your mare??

my girl was diagnosed 2 months ago and is only 9, farrier said of a horse he shoes that was diagnosed at 5, not always the end of the road but won't go away.
Yours might not have that though!

I hope not but vet did mention the word arthritis. Does it get worse? What supplements is your mare on?
 
Very much so, she is an enthusiastic happy hacker, as soon as she realises she's not just going for a leg stretch, she starts striding out, ears pricked, she has been known to refuse to enter our drive if she thinks she hasn't been out long enough, she isn't ridden hard though, mostly active walk and trots, usually max 2 hour hacks, 2/3 times a week
 
I also queried longterm use of bute, vet said given her age it would be fine.
I still think I will get her some danlion and also add tumeric to her feed, she either has her bute in a hanful of chaff or in a toast and marmite sarnie
