Had a long month trying to find out the cause of my ponys (tom) lamness! Hes a little 14.1 x trotting pony. And is begging to look normal in the trot,(just abit wide behind) but couldnt always canter with his legs in the right order and would skip disunited all the time. (I have had him 1 year now)
Firstly he works, 5-6 days a week schooling and hacking, hes just a pet so dosnt do anything dramatic. The only thing is he can be a idiot in the field! I took him in the school just to flat him for 20 mins. After about 5-10 mins he was very lame, got off, looked at him on the lunge and decided to call the vet, he was really unhappy ears back and wobbling about. Vet came out a few days later watched him on the lunge and trot up and decided that he was lame right hind, she didnt know where but that was her thoughts. so we took him back and she decided to nerve block the fetlock..(That was after tom kicked out and bent her needle about 8 times!!) But he seemed to look no better. She then x-rayed his right hock and couldnt really see anything on that either. Because toms really warry and sensitive she told me he had to go into hospital to have thermology to find out where abouts to look. Due to the 60 pound a day fee for him to stay in hospital i decided to have a second opionion with a senior member of the practice before i made that decition. He came out a week later watched him trot up, lunge, and flexion tested him and decided he was lame on his left hind! So we nerve blocked the left fetlock, nothing changed and it was decided he was lame higher up, hock/stifle area. So that day he had both hocks, stifles, and his back x-rayed and far as i know nothing showed. hes been on bute for 6 days and vets are due to come back out on monday to deep scan his hips! just hope we find something!!!!! Such a pain in the bum as he loves to work, and getting abit rude whilst off. If anyone can relate or have any suggestions let me know!
wasnt suppose to be a thumbs up icon , didnt realise what it was!!!
