Posting on behalf of a friend who's not a memeber on here, so have no other details sorry!

But she just wanted me to post this to see what opinions you all had.

Story:

She has a mare, who's about 19 y/o, but an older 19 y/o if that makes sense - touch of arthiritis etc.
She's in very mild work usually - a couple of hacks out, maybe a little pop over a small log etc.
However, for the past week, she's been a bit lame/off when ridden.

Basically, once warmed up and had a walk/trot/canter, about 20mins into the ride she'll trip on her front foot/leg and then be short/lame on that leg. Not hopping lame, but obvious enough that she's off and then just very 'careful'/footy on that leg.
Obviously, untacked got off etc and trotted her up and she was indeed slightly short on it.First time this happened was a week ago, she put her away for the night and was trotted up the next morning and was absolutely fine, no lameness, shortness etc.
Had a week off, trotted up each day and was sound as a pound.
Went to ride her again y/d, and the same thing happened again, soon as warmed up and had a canter, she tripped over the same foot again and was footy on it again identical to the last time. All ground is flat she's ridden on, no dips or stones etc. Just flat grass. Mare not shod, barefoot and has been for ages.
Untacked again obv, and pretty much everything was the same. Had a good feel for any heat/swelling/stones/anything abnormal really, and there's nothing. No strong pulse anywhere, no lumps, bumps, swelling, etc. Everything looks normal for her.
Had the night off again and she's sound again inhand.
Obv, not being ridden now and vet being called.....

But just wondered what your lot takes on it would be just for ideas till then? Sorry, that's the only info I know!

:)

That was my first thought too, or the dreaded N word.

Vet's been called and due to come out, not sure when though as didn't ask. Think she just wanted opinions right at the moment though just for any kind of ideas what to expect from the vet :)
